About Haringey

Haringey is a fantastic place to live and work – the world in one borough. A place brimming with creativity, personality, radicalism, and community. It is a place where we stand up for each other. A place that is proudly distinctive. We’ll be celebrating all this and more as the “rebel borough” when we are the 2027 London Borough of Culture.

Our history champions change‑makers and everyday rebels; reveling in our differences, battling discrimination, championing equality, and doing things our own way. Haringey’s people are a huge asset, with knowledge, expertise, and passion. Our staff members embody our organisational values: Caring, Creative, Courageous, Collaborative and Community‑focused. These values keep us looking forward, ambitious for the future, and continuously striving to do our very best for all of our residents.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Commissioning Officer to join our Children’s Services team. This is a pivotal role where you will lead the commissioning of services that make a real difference to children, young people, and families.

As Senior Commissioning Officer, you will:

  • Take responsibility for the planning, procurement, and management of services, ensuring contracts and service specifications are robust, compliant, and deliver positive outcomes.
  • Oversee the end‑to‑end commissioning cycle, including research, planning, procurement, monitoring, evaluation, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide clear, evidence‑based reports and recommendations to senior management, supporting effective decision‑making and resource allocation.
  • Manage and support a team of Commissioning Officers, ensuring policies are followed and high standards of practice are maintained.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across Children’s Services, Procurement, and partner organisations to ensure services meet needs and deliver value.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of legal procedures, local and national policies, and legislative frameworks, ensuring compliance at every stage.
  • Drive service improvements by identifying opportunities, recommending changes, and ensuring these are implemented effectively.
  • Build strong relationships with providers and stakeholders to ensure commissioning plans align with departmental priorities and deliver the best outcomes for children and families.
About the Team

As a Senior Commissioning Officer, you will report to the Strategic Commissioner within the Commissioning and Programmes team in Children’s Services. The team drives strategic thinking, collaborative working, and performance management across all commissioning activity. Operating with a “One Children’s Commissioning” approach, the team works closely with external partners to deliver high‑quality, evidence‑based services that provide best value. We are committed to cultural change and continuous improvement, ensuring our commissioning plans align with corporate priorities while regularly reviewing provision to identify opportunities for innovation. Above all, the team is dedicated to achieving positive outcomes for children and families in Haringey, with all decisions and activities firmly rooted in needs‑led, evidence‑based practice.

About You

We are looking for an experienced professional with a strong background in service commissioning, procurement, and contract management. You will bring proven expertise in managing and organising data to support service design and ensure contract requirements are met. With substantial experience of working at a senior level, ideally within the public sector, you will be confident in leading teams and driving high‑quality outcomes.

You will have a solid understanding of legal procedures, local and national policies, and legislative frameworks, alongside excellent communication skills and knowledge of GDPR and information security protocols. Collaboration is key in this role, and you will have a track record of working effectively across departments and services to build systems that deliver efficient, needs‑led provision.

Your knowledge of best practice in planning, monitoring, feedback, and evaluation will enable you to identify opportunities for improvement and ensure services deliver value. If you are passionate about commissioning and committed to achieving positive outcomes for children and families, this is an excellent opportunity to develop your career in a role that is yours to shape.
