Job Title: Lecturer in Public Services

Pay: Up to £39,725 per annum depending on experience and qualifications

Hours: 37 hours per week (52 weeks) – Full Time

Overview

We are looking for a lecturer who is passionate about education, experienced in the field, and committed to inspiring the next generation of professionals through engaging, inclusive, and practical teaching.

The successful candidate will have the chance to acquire new skills and develop their abilities in a wide range of activities. We have a variety of students from the surrounding area and are a welcoming and inclusive community that champions diversity and equality across our college.

What you’ll be doing
  • Teach across a range of programmes from Level 1 to Level 5 in Public Services and associated areas.
  • Develop further courses in Public Services and associated areas.
  • Take an active part in the recruitment of learners providing appropriate advice and guidance.
  • Deliver high‑quality teaching and learning by providing students with a planned learning and assessment experience; effectively managing and monitoring the learning process; providing regular assessment opportunities; providing timely and constructive feedback; and guiding and supporting learners to achieve their learning goals.
  • Support, and where appropriate, contextualise and signpost Functional Skills in the curriculum.
  • Actively develop and use new technology in teaching, learning and assessment.
  • Provide assignment and assessment material appropriate to each specific programme (including necessary marking of work).
  • Produce schemes of work, lesson plans, individual learning plans and assessment schedules.
  • Evaluate and assess (formative and summative) the work of learners in relation to the curriculum criteria and provide timely, constructive and helpful learner feedback.
  • Attend curriculum meetings and contribute to continual quality improvement mechanisms (maintenance of course files, completion of external quality processes, course evaluations and e‑ILPs on ProMonitor).
  • Keep accurate and effective systems of administration which support the student and college needs, including management and maintenance of learner ILPs, progress and performance records.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Appropriate academic or professional qualification.
  • Recognised teaching qualification (or willing to obtain within 2 years).
  • Level 2 in English and Maths.
  • Degree or equivalent vocational qualification.
  • Assessors/Verifiers Award or equivalent.
  • Qualifications/experience in sports, fitness or outdoor activities (e.g. Sports Leaders Award, Mountain Leader, BELA).
  • Experience of teaching, coaching or delivery.
  • Recent relevant experience in an FE/HE environment.
  • Good administrative and organisational skills.
  • Good communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Ability to build relationships and work as part of a team.
  • Excellent time management (working to deadlines), self‑motivated and disciplined.
  • Valid driver’s licence (incl. minibus or willingness to gain).
Salary and Hours

Salary range: £25,599 to £39,725 per annum. Starting salary will depend on experience and qualifications. Salary increases within the band on an annual basis.

Hours of work: 37 hours per week, of which 25 hours delivery. Actual hours agreed with manager.

For staff holding these roles, additional training is required.

Location

Based cross campus; may be required to work at other locations from time to time.

  • Knowledge and understanding of current developments in the industry.
  • Understanding of awarding body assessment procedures.
  • Ability to teach and tutor a wide ability range within 14‑19+ year old cohorts.
  • Proven IT skills, use of ILT to deliver innovative learning.
  • Ability to develop new courses.
  • Organisational skills.
