COULD A BBC APPRENTICESHIP BE THE NEXT ROLE FOR YOU?

Join us as an apprentice at the BBC to kick-start a career you’ll love. We’re committed to your skills and talent development. You’ll learn on the job, developing knowledge and skills in an area you’re passionate about while working towards an apprenticeship qualification with one of our learning providers.

WHY JOIN THIS SCHEME?

Are you a natural organiser with a passion for media? The Junior Production Coordinator Apprenticeship at the BBC could be your perfect start. You may help set up filming on location or in the studio for programmes like The One Show, or schedule crews and freelancers for Women’s Hour. No media experience or qualifications needed – just enthusiasm and problem‑solving skills. Whether you’re finishing school or changing careers, this hands‑on role offers a pathway into production management at one of the world’s leading broadcasters.

To find out more about the schemes we offer, register to join one of our webinars. The webinar for this scheme takes place on Tuesday 9th December at 6pm. If you can’t attend or have seen this after that date, watch the webinar playlist on YouTube where the video will be uploaded.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM?

BBC Audio produces a wide range of radio programmes and podcasts for stations including Radio 1, Radio 2, 6 Music, Radio 4, World Service and BBC Sounds. Our teams work with leading names in music, entertainment and journalism to create content enjoyed across the UK and globally. As an apprentice, you’ll support production teams behind the scenes, helping ensure everything runs smoothly across studio, office and location‑based work.

This is an entry‑level position into production management. You will work as a Production Management Assistant, supporting our Production Managers and Production Coordinators in creating quality content for all of our output, which may include TV, audio, online, events and digital platforms.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT

As a Junior Production Coordinator apprentice with BBC Audio, you will learn, grow and contribute. Responsibilities include:

  • Support production teams with admin tasks and logistics
  • Meet and greet guests and contributors
  • Help organise production meetings and travel arrangements
  • Type up scripts and running orders
  • Assist with studio operations and production paperwork

On successful completion of your apprenticeship, you will be able to apply for roles such as Production Management Assistant, Production Secretary or Production Coordinator, depending on experience inside and outside the BBC.

You’ll study for an industry recognised apprenticeship qualification, learning both on the job at the BBC and off the job with our chosen education provider. The academic study involves instructor‑led workshops, tutorials, presentations and group work. Throughout your apprenticeship, you will be asked to gather a portfolio while working towards a Level 3 apprenticeship qualification.

This apprenticeship will give you a thorough knowledge and understanding of production management and the media industry, which you can then utilise during your time at the BBC and thereafter in the wider industry.

For more information on the apprenticeship standard you will be studying, please click here.

YOUR SKILLS AND ELIGIBILITY

We’re interested in your passion for working at the BBC and your enthusiasm for delivering world‑class content and operational excellence to our audiences. We’re not focused on your qualifications; instead, we look for potential and offer you the opportunity to apply your transferable strengths and experience to work in different ways.

If you can bring some of these skills and experiences, along with transferable strengths, we’d love to hear from you and encourage you to apply:

  • Brilliant organisational skills and excellent at problem‑solving and negotiating
  • Great at working with people – a team player and excellent communicator
  • Resilient, responsible and calm focused in challenging situations
  • Flexible, motivated and adaptable to the pace of work
  • Can manage multiple deadlines and demands on your time
  • Enthusiastic and motivated self‑starter, flexible and adaptable to out‑of‑hours working

This scheme is aimed at non‑graduates. If you have a degree and are interested in similar roles at the BBC, we recommend applying for jobs on the BBC careers site or exploring other apprenticeship schemes.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

To be eligible for an apprenticeship at the BBC, you must:

  • Be 18 years old or over by the time the apprenticeship begins in September 2026
  • Have lived in the UK continuously for the last 3 years prior to the start of the apprenticeship
  • Be legally eligible to work full‑time in the UK for the entire duration of the apprenticeship
  • Not currently be enrolled in another apprenticeship programme, whether with the BBC or another organisation
  • For candidates under 19 years at the start of the apprenticeship, you must have achieved Maths and English GCSE at Grade 4/C or above or National 5 (Scotland) at C or Functional Skills Level 2 or equivalent. If you have not achieved these, you will be required to achieve Functional Skills Level 2 before the end of your apprenticeship when you take your end‑point assessment

To apply, you must also:

  • Must be passionate about the production management side of making content. If it’s the ‘coming up with ideas for content’ side you like, the Production Apprenticeship may be more suitable. Please click here to view the Production Apprenticeship adverts
  • No prior learning is required to apply. If you already have relevant experience or qualifications, your individual learning plan may be adjusted to reflect this – meaning you could complete your apprenticeship in less time
