Design Manager

Reporting to: Regional Design Manager

Division: Construction (Building)

Location: East Midlands

Contract type: Permanent

Are you ready to take the lead in driving design excellence at one of the industry’s leading firms? We’re looking for an experienced Design Manager with a strong background in education sector projects, particularly DfE‑funded developments.

• Oversee permanent and temporary works designs for live projects and tenders.
• Collaborate closely with tender and project teams to align design expectations.
• Manage design programmes, incorporating them into the main programme.
• Fulfill designer duties for pre‑construction operations under CDM Regulations.
• Provide design input for tender submissions and offer technical guidance as needed.
• Coordinate temporary works design elements and facilitate seamless information flow.

• Strong background in Education sector projects, particularly DfE‑funded developments.
• Proven experience in a similar role with a main contractor.
• Strong project management and communication skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.
• Dedication to quality and excellence in design execution.

• Design Management: Excellent understanding of the design process and interface management between disciplines.
• Construction Knowledge: Track record of site‑based experience and very high level of knowledge of the design and construction process.
• IT Skills: Ability to use all software/IT systems to the benefit of the role and organisation.
• Formal Qualification in Construction: BSc, HND, HNC or equivalent experience.

• Contract Knowledge: Understands specific contracts and able to take appropriate action.
• IT Skills: Working knowledge of SketchUp, Revit, Navisworks.
• Professional Body: MCIOB, MICE or working towards it.
