About British Cycling

In 2027 the UK will host the GrandDepart of both the Tour De France and the Tour De France Femmes, Avec Zwift. This will be the first time in history that both races have departed from the same country, outside of France. A landmark social impact programme will also be delivered across the UK, tackling inactivity, improving mental wellbeing, boosting economic growth and supporting communities to thrive.

A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) – Grand Depart GB 2027 – will maintain oversight of the delivery of the events and will manage public funding on behalf of DCMS, Scottish Government, Welsh Government and UK Sport.

The SPV is a Joint Venture between UKEL (a new sports events company) and British Cycling. British Cycling will deliver the operational and business function, social impact and volunteer programmes along with all consumer facing functions, on behalf of partners.

We are now recruiting for two Venue Managers to join the team.

The Venue Manager will focus on venue planning of the Start or Finish venues (referred to throughout as venues) for all GrandDepart Stages of the Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift Grand Departs 2027.

Whilst Local Authority Hosts (LA Hosts) are primarily responsible for the delivery of each of the ‘venues’ by which we mean stage Start / Finish locations and spaces, the successful candidate will oversee from a central project delivery perspective. Sitting in the Operations Team, reporting to the Operations Director, The Venue Lead will lead a venue team to support and co‑ordinate all partners to ensure the safe and successful delivery of the Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift Grand Depart 2027 Start and Finish venues.

Strong knowledge of road event infrastructure, safety, and crowd management.

Demonstrable experience of working in partnership with the Emergency Services, Local Authorities and multiple stakeholders in major sporting event venues environment.

A confident leader and project manager, capable of overseeing complex operations, coordinating multiple stakeholders, and driving high performance across teams and delivery partners.

A strong communicator who thrives on building relationships with colleagues and a range of stakeholders.

You will be highly organise, detail‑oriented, and comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment.

You take initiative, adapt quickly to change, and bring creativity and resilience to everything you do.

What will you be doing?
  • Work collaboratively with Local Authority Hosts, emergency services, and delivery partners to create and deliver safe, world‑class outdoor event venues.
  • Act as the primary liaison with ASO technical teams for venue operations, integrating their requirements into UK delivery plans.
  • Workwith partners to develop and manage venue planning collaborating with Local Authority Hosts including:
    • Venue layout and infrastructure
    • Technical and competition requirements
    • Event Management and Event Safety Plans
    • Security and crowd management
    • Contingency and emergency plans
  • Create and manage venue management plans alongside LA Hosts, including stewarding allocation and working with the project’s Volunteer Lead for identification of volunteer locations and requirements.
  • Work with the Police to design resource levels needed for venue management and additional blue light services.
  • Design, with LA Hosts, the requirements for safety and security provision for each venue.
  • Contribute to the development of venue contingency plans working with the relevant policing authorities, highways authorities and suppliers across the event.
  • Update and manage documents and communications that will form part of the wider event management plan for the event.
  • Work with the Route and Highways and Transport Team to interface venue and route management, spectator management and planning.
  • Act as the main point of contact for LA Hosts responsible for the start/finish area at each stage.
  • Work with the Operations and Programme teams, supporting delivery partners in their preparations and delivery.
  • Provide support to other teams and departments as required by the project’s Operations Director.
  • Coordinate technical visits, operational meetings, safety advisory groups and operational readiness requirements with key stakeholders and the ASO.
