About the role

This Buyer, focused on lighting, is an exciting new role in the business that is much needed, helping us to fuel our ambitions to be a leading global homewares brand. Lighting is amongst our fastest growing categories, and we now want to support their rapid growth and hire our first specialist in the team with proven experience in, and passion for, this product type.

You will work closely with the existing Buying, Merchandising and Design teams to lead the delivery to market of the existing lighting range, and use your experience and initiative to develop it further to drive future growth.

Here’s what you’ll be working on:

Although these will be your main responsibilities, the nature of working in an exciting and growing startup means that you will be exposed to many other aspects of the business including digital merchandising, press and events where a can-do attitude will be a must.

  • Driving Mrs Alice’s growth in lighting by sourcing products, negotiating and managing all orders across these categories
  • Working closely with our Founder, Buying Director and Design team to develop new products within your category each season
  • Leading on the delivery of these new products and existing continuity product within your categories against specific targets including sales value, landed margin and contribution margin
  • Working with our Buying Director to set pricing for each territory that maintains our excellent sales growth, whilst meeting our margin targets
  • Analyising sales to identify best and slow‑selling lines and working with our Merchandising team to manage inventory levels to optimize stock turnover and reduce holding costs.
  • Ensuring all safety and testing standards are met for our global customer base, with ultimate responsibility for this within the team
  • Maintaining great relationships with a wide range of global suppliers, this will include implementation of best working practices and negotiation of terms
  • Sourcing new suppliers as and when required to build on our ranges
  • Researching the market and company position to identify opportunities and risks from brands in USA and UK
  • Communicating with Marketing, E-commerce and Customer Service teams to ensure products are promoted and meet customer needs
  • You must have at least 2 years experience buying Lighting. Ideally this experience should include technical knowledge of safety standards in lighting and/or furniture for UK , EU and US markets
  • Experience at Buyer level managing a global supply base
  • You have an eye for design and detail and strong commercial awareness, with particular reference to the Mrs. Alice aesthetic.
  • You have excellent negotiation skills and are highly numerate, comfortable analysing data
  • You are highly organised and excel in time management and prioritization
  • You are a strong team player with excellent communication skills and willing to work across all levels within your role when required
  • You are able to work independently as well as part of a small team, with demonstrated ability in both line and stakeholder management.
  • You are able to work in London, and willing to travel to our design studio & warehouse in Peterborough and our national and global suppliers regularly.
  • 25 days holiday allowance + 8 days bank holidays
  • 8 days additional work from abroad
  • Home working on Friday’s but flex if you need it
  • Great personal discount code of 40% and a friends and family one too
  • Enrolled in the company pension scheme
  • A central London office right in the middle of London
  • A fantastic, fast paced and dynamic team to work with who thrive on sales success!
