Job description
Join the ESAS Board (Treasurer) - Volunteer

We are seeking a Treasurer to join our Board. This voluntary role is pivotal in strengthening ESAS’s governance and sustainability. Use your financial expertise to support our growth and advance migrant justice and race equality.

What difference will you make?

As Treasurer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that ESAS remains financially sustainable and able to grow its impact. Your guidance will help us strengthen our financial strategy, manage risk, and build the resilience we need to continue advancing migrant justice, race equality, and advocacy against labour exploitation in the UK. By supporting the Board and staff to understand and act on financial information, you will directly influence our ability to deliver life‑changing support and advocacy for East and Southeast Asian communities. This is a vital role where your expertise will shape both the stability of our organisation and the future of our work.

What are we looking for?
Essential Skills, Experience and Qualities
  • Strong financial literacy and confidence with reports (budgets, cashflow, accounts).
  • Governance‑level understanding of finance able to read accounts, assess risk, and ask the right questions.
  • Ability to explain financial information clearly to fellow Board members.
  • Integrity, impartiality, and sound judgment.
  • Willingness to liaise with the Executive Director and, if required, accountants or auditors.
  • Understanding that all CIC directors share collective financial responsibility.
Desirable (but Not Essential)
  • Previous experience as a Treasurer.
  • Accountancy or finance qualification.
  • Experience with CIC or charity financial reporting (Companies House, CIC Regulator, HMRC).
  • Knowledge of fundraising, reserves policies, or financial sustainability in non‑profits.
Personal Qualities
  • Commitment to ESAS’s mission and values, including migrant justice, race equality, and anti‑racism.
  • Professionalism and integrity in representing ESAS.
  • Willingness to act as a “critical friend” — supportive but able to challenge constructively.
  • Respect for inclusivity, sustainability, and community wellbeing.
What will you be doing?

East and Southeast Asian Scotland (ESAS) is a growing Community Interest Company dedicated to advancing migrant justice, race equality, and the rights of East and Southeast Asian communities. As we expand our programmes and advocacy, we are strengthening our governance and financial sustainability to ensure we can deliver long‑term impact. Our current challenge is to build robust financial systems and strategies that match our growth, diversify income, and manage risk while staying true to our community‑led values.

We are seeking a Treasurer to join our Board who can provide financial leadership and oversight at a governance level. This is a non‑executive role where you will not manage finances day to day, but you will support the Board and staff to understand financial information, scrutinise budgets, and make informed decisions about sustainability.

As Treasurer, you will:

  • Guide ESAS in developing a clear financial strategy and reserves policy.
  • Review budgets, accounts, and forecasts, highlighting risks and opportunities for the Board.
  • Ensure compliance with CIC financial reporting requirements.
  • Act as a critical friend to the Executive Director and management team, offering advice and assurance when they work with bookkeepers and accountants.

We are looking for someone with strong financial literacy and governance experience, who can bring clarity, integrity, and sound judgement to our Board. Lived experience of migration, racial inequality, or community‑led change would be particularly valued.
