Aptus is a fast-growing principal contractor delivering high-quality projects for clients across both public and private sectors. We are looking for an experienced Senior Bid Writer to play a key role in winning new work and strengthening the quality of our submissions.
This is a pivotal position within the work-winning team, responsible for producing high-scoring written responses for tenders, frameworks, and negotiated opportunities. You will work closely with our estimating, bidding, planning, design, and commercial teams to shape winning strategies, capture key project information, and communicate it clearly and persuasively.
The Senior Bid Writer will also help drive continuous improvement in how we present our business, our approach, and our value, ensuring every submission reflects Aptus’ standards, personality, and strengths.
Job Description
- Lead the writing and development of tender submissions from start to finish, ensuring quality, accuracy, and compliance.
- Create clear, persuasive, and client-focused responses to PQQs, ITTs, SQs, and framework bids.
- Work with internal stakeholders to gather information and shape strong win themes.
- Edit, refine, and improve contributions from multiple team members into a consistent tone and style.
- Develop and maintain a library of bid content, case studies, CVs, and supporting narrative.
- Ensure submissions meet deadlines, formatting requirements, and client instructions.
- Review tender documents and scoring criteria, identifying opportunities to strengthen our responses.
- Coordinate with design teams (internal or external) to ensure written content aligns with visuals and layout.
- Support the wider preconstruction team by improving templates, processes, and submission quality controls.
- Contribute to post-submission reviews, lessons learned, and continuous improvement of bid strategy.
- Mentor junior bid team members and support the development of writing capability across the business.
Key Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience in a Bid Writer / Senior Bid Writer role within construction, fit-out, engineering, or a related sector.
- Strong understanding of public sector tendering, frameworks, and procurement processes.
- Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to adapt tone and style to different clients.
- Highly organised, with strong deadline management and the ability to handle multiple bids at once.
- Confident working with senior stakeholders, including directors and operational leaders.
- Strong attention to detail, particularly around compliance, formatting, and document control.
- Ability to turn technical information into clear, engaging client-focused narrative.
- Experience using bid libraries, templates, and structured quality review processes.
- Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Office (Word essential).
- Experience working alongside graphic design teams and using InDesign or similar.
