Role Summary

Want to be involved in the biggest hospital building programme in a generation? This is an exciting opportunity for a proven operational manager to be an integral part of a major programme to future proof our hospital services to provide better care for patients, a better place to work for our NHS staff and to help the NHS reach its net zero carbon ambitions.

Our Future Hospital programme

North Devon District Hospital is one of 40 hospitals included in the Government’s New Hospital Programme. Backed by an initial £3.7 billion of investment, this commitment forms part of the Health Infrastructure Plan, a strategic long term programme of investment to ensure our health‑care system, and its staff, has the world‑class facilities it needs for the future.

Your role will be to work with the programme’s clinical and non‑clinical teams to help create a strategic design solution to redevelop and futureproof the existing hospital to provide better care for patients, a better place to work for our NHS staff and to help the NHS reach its net zero carbon ambit ion.

About you

This is high profile programme and you will be the conduit between operational and clinical teams and the Our Future Hospital Programme team to ensure operational and clinical input and ownership of the elements in the cases, as well as identifying and quantifying the benefits of change and investment.

As a key member of the OFH programme you will be solution focussed when working through any problems and will work across teams to ensure that projects are planned, managed and delivered on time and in line with the programme plan. You will be self‑motivated, proactive and enthusiastic, working collaboratively with all stakeholder groups to achieve the programme ambitions.

What are we looking for?

  • Proven NHS operational manager experience for a minimum of 2 years
  • Excellent organisational, problem solving and planning skills with sound understanding of governance
  • Proven experience of producing project documentation, business cases, excellent risk and issue management and clear and concise report writing skills
  • Ability to work in a constantly changing environment
  • Ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external staff, suppliers and stakeholders

Working Pattern: Mon-Fri, 37.5 hours per week, office based at North Devon District Hospital. This post is offered on a 24 month Fixed Term Contract, with the potential to extend, subject to national funding. Secondment into the role for 24 months is also an option.

Please note, This is an internal vacancy for Royal Devon employees, therefore Bank workers are currently not eligible to apply for this vacancy. T his is a fixed term contract until 1/02/2028. For current NHS employees this post could be a secondment opportunity.
