Job Title: Senior Structural Engineer
Location: HM Naval Base, Portsmouth
Service Area: Asset Management
Hours of Work: 37 hours per week
Salary: £58,000 – £65,000
KBS Maritime is a joint venture between KBR and BAE Systems, delivering innovative asset and facilities management solutions across the maritime and defence sectors. We combine the strength of two major organisations with the agility and collaborative culture of a small business – where people are valued, supported and empowered to succeed.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our EnAct Team as a Senior Structural Engineer, playing a key role in maintaining and improving the structural integrity of buildings and infrastructure across Portsmouth Naval Base.
You’ll lead and deliver structural inspections, condition appraisals and remedial work programmes across a diverse estate – from historic buildings and concrete frames to steel structures, masts and towers. Working closely with our Chief Engineer, Estates Surveyors and multidisciplinary engineering teams, you’ll provide expert technical insight, deliver high‑quality reporting and ensure that any required works are scoped, assessed and costed accurately.
This role blends hands‑on structural surveying with technical leadership, stakeholder engagement and the opportunity to influence long‑term asset management plans.
You’re a trusted structural engineering professional who brings sound technical judgement, strong communication skills and an organised, methodical approach to your work. You enjoy working both independently and as part of a collaborative team, and you’re confident providing clear advice to colleagues, clients and contractors.
You take pride in producing thorough, accurate reports, and you’re comfortable navigating statutory requirements, H&S considerations and building regulations. Above all, you bring a proactive mindset, a commitment to high standards, and a genuine interest in delivering safe, sustainable, value‑driven solutions.
At KBS Maritime, we’re not just another company – we’re an exciting and dynamic joint venture between industry leaders BAE Systems and KBR. Our team is dedicated to providing Asset Management, Infrastructure Management, Energy Solutions and Alongside Services at His Majesty’s Naval Base Portsmouth (HMNBP), the beating heart of the Royal Navy.
With almost two-thirds of the Royal Navy’s surface ships stationed at HMNBP, working with KBS Maritime means being at the forefront of innovation and progress. We operate in a unique and fascinating environment, with a mix of historic dockyards and cutting‑edge infrastructure that’s unlike any other.
By delivering state of the art solutions to the Royal Navy, KBS Maritime offers the chance to work on projects that make a real difference to the safety, security, and sustainability of the UK’s National Defence and Security. But it’s not just about the work – at KBS Maritime, we believe in the value of our people. We have the ethos of a small business, which means we value and empower our team members to succeed.
