Overview

Aspiring Counsellor Required: Dorking, Surrey

Pastoral Support Assistant – Aspiring Counsellor – Milk Education

Location: Dorking and Surrounding Areas
Salary: £101.40 – £115 per day | Full-time, Term-time | Immediate and January starts

Do you have a passion for supporting young people’s mental health and emotional wellbeing? Are you looking for a role that allows you to make a genuine difference every single day?

I’m Farhad at Milk Education, and I’m currently working with a cluster of welcoming and supportive secondary schools in Dorking who are seeking compassionate and patient individuals to join their pastoral and wellbeing teams.

This is a fantastic opportunity for psychology, counselling, or health and social care graduates — or anyone looking to build a career in mental health, education, or youth work. You’ll be supporting students who may be facing social, emotional or behavioural challenges, helping them to develop confidence, self-esteem and resilience.

This isn’t just a job — it’s a chance to change lives while gaining invaluable hands-on experience that can lead to future roles such as School Counsellor, Pastoral Lead, Educational Psychologist, Youth Worker, or Mental Health Practitioner.

What You’ll Be Doing

Offering 1:1 emotional and pastoral support to students who may be struggling with anxiety, low self-esteem, or challenging circumstances

Assisting with behaviour management and helping to create a calm, supportive learning environment

Supporting attendance and engagement, helping students reconnect with their learning

Working closely with teachers, safeguarding leads, counsellors and SEN staff to implement individual support plans

Taking part in wellbeing initiatives, group sessions and mentoring programmes

Promoting a culture of empathy, inclusion, and emotional awareness across the school

What I’m Looking For

A caring, patient and empathetic personality – someone who genuinely enjoys helping others

Ideally, a background or degree in Psychology, Counselling, Criminology, Health & Social Care or a related field (not essential)

Strong communication and relationship-building skills

Emotional resilience and the ability to remain calm under pressure

A genuine interest in mental health, safeguarding, and youth development

A proactive and reliable approach – someone who’s not afraid to get involved and make a difference

What’s On Offer

Full-time, term-time hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm

Ongoing training and development through Milk Education

Access to our Unbottled Wellbeing Programme, designed to promote resilience, positivity and personal growth

Clear progression routes into counselling, psychology, or teaching

The chance to work in Dorking schools that truly value empathy, kindness, and people who care

Why Work with Me at Milk Education

At Milk Education, we believe in building brighter futures — for students and for our candidates. When you work with me, you’ll have dedicated, ongoing support to help you find the right school and develop your career.

I’m passionate about connecting compassionate people with schools that share their values. Whether you’re exploring counselling, teaching, or educational psychology, this role will give you the experience and confidence to take the next step.
