Join to apply for the Graduate Geotechnical Engineer (5783) role at Arup.

The Opportunity: We are looking for enthusiastic graduates to join our Ground Engineering teams across our UK offices. From day one, you will join an active community of experts, with support for your career path and professional qualifications. You will help deliver effective and professional services for a range of varied and high-profile clients, with responsibility from day one and opportunities to grow your skills and experience. You will work within a multi-disciplinary office, supported by ground engineering professionals of all levels, with chances to develop in areas such as numerical modelling, seismic, risk and resilience, or sustainability. Your work will focus on geotechnical aspects across the project lifecycle, including desk studies, ground investigation, analysis & design, carbon management, construction supervision & monitoring, and asset management. You may collaborate with multi-disciplinary project teams and may be asked to work in other Arup offices or regions from time to time. Graduates will have opportunities to build a strong base in ground engineering and to broaden your network across the firm.

Where you will work

Graduate Geotechnical Engineering roles are available in Birmingham, Nottingham, London, Leeds, Sheffield, Cardiff, Southampton, Bristol, Belfast and Newcastle.

Responsibilities
  • Join a multi-disciplinary team and contribute to geotechnical-focused project work across the full project lifecycle (desk studies, ground investigation, analysis & design, construction supervision & monitoring, asset management).
  • Deliver effective and professional services for varied, high-profile clients and problems, with the opportunity to take on more responsibility as you progress.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in other Arup disciplines and possibly work across regions.
  • Develop expertise in areas such as numerical modelling, seismic, risk and resilience, or sustainability.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or a related subject, 2.1 or above (predicted or attained).
  • A Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a postgraduate qualification in Geotechnics, Soil Mechanics, Seismic Engineering or related subject is desirable.
  • Enthusiasm for a career in ground engineering with a knowledge and understanding of the sector and work.
  • Excellent engineering knowledge of soil mechanics and soil-structure interaction with an understanding of sustainable development principles.
  • Effective communication, teamwork, and an analytical mindset.
  • Aptitude to work on your own initiative and be proactive, seeking to improve existing ways of working.
  • Understanding how to apply the principles of Eurocodes in geotechnical and structural design.
  • Willingness to learn new technical and engineering software, including those that utilise 3D design and digital automation.
  • Experience with coding languages, finite element software, or digital design would be beneficial.
  • We welcome applicants with specialisms developed through postgraduate studies or PhD.
