You’ll work as part of the Embedded Software team in a fast-paced engineering environment, delivering reliable, real-time embedded solutions that support vehicle control, data acquisition, and telemetry under racing conditions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement embedded software for ECUs, sensors, and control systems across the product lifecycle.
  • Interface with hardware using motorsport protocols (e.g., CAN, XCP, Ethernet).
  • Optimize code for low-latency, high-reliability performance in race environments.
  • Provide support to the development and trackside operations teams with diagnostics, calibration, and live data analysis. Occasional trackside support may be required.

  • Strong C or C++ programming skills for microprocessors and microcontrollers.
  • Experience with RTOS development (e.g., FreeRTOS, VxWorks, embedded Linux).
  • Familiarity with communication interfaces: CAN, Ethernet, SPI, I2C, UART, USB.
  • Exposure to full lifecycle software development using agile or V-model methodologies.
  • Ability to present technical work clearly and contribute to design reviews.

Desirable Attributes
  • Experience in motorsport or high-performance automotive environments.
  • Scripting skills (e.g., Python, Perl) and build automation.
  • Application development experience in Windows or Linux.
  • Familiarity with hardware schematics and datasheets.
  • Exposure to MATLAB Simulink or FPGA development.
  • Willingness to learn and implement new technical solutions.
  • Understanding of F1-specific systems (e.g., chassis control, power unit integration).
Values and Behaviours
  • Passion for motorsport and continuous performance improvement.
  • Team player with a results-driven mindset.
  • Clear communicator with strong attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated, organised, and capable of working independently.

At Motion Applied we firmly believe it’s the relationships and friendships we create while working that make us special. We’re also aware that the world is changing and we are part of that change. We all want and need different things from our work and home lives, so, if you have commitments outside of work, we’re open to talking through flexible working options that work for you and us.

  • Annual leave (25 days + bank holidays, pro-rated for part time colleagues).
  • Enhanced Company Maternity, Paternity and Adoption leave and pay.
  • Flexible working policies, including Hybrid Working.
  • Life assurance to the value of 4 times base salary
  • Opportunity to join the Motion Applied Pension Plan
