Building Surveyor
Job summary
A leading consultancy firm in the United Kingdom is looking for a Building Surveyor to support residential, public sector, and regeneration projects. The role involves undertaking building inspections, producing technical reports, and managing both pre- and post-contract duties. Candidates should have a degree in Building Surveying along with 2–5 years of experience. Strong knowledge of building pathology and relationships with public-sector stakeholders are important. This position requires travel within the region.
Qualifications
- 2–5 years’ Building Surveying experience.
- Experience in residential or public‑sector projects.
- Familiarity with refurbishment or regeneration projects is desirable.
Responsibilities
- Undertake building inspections for residential & public sector buildings.
- Produce building pathology reports and defect diagnosis.
- Organise investigations, surveys and due diligence.
- Carry out regular site inspections and produce necessary documentation.
- Communicate with stakeholders and maintain relationships.

Location: Cambridge (with regional travel)
We are seeking a Building Surveyor to join a consultancy working across residential, public sector, mixed-use and regeneration projects. You will support pre- and post-contract surveying duties, project delivery and client liaison across Cambridge and the wider region.
- Undertake building inspections (residential & public sector buildings)
- Produce building pathology reports, defect diagnosis and technical assessments
- Review drawings, prepare audit checklists and maintain project documentation
- Organise investigations, surveys and due diligence
- Assist with tender processes, including preparing Employer’s Requirements, specifications and JCT documentation
- Support procurement routes and value-for-money assessments
- Attend and minute pre-contract meetings
- Carry out regular site inspections
- Produce instructions, certificates and notices
- Support contractor liaison, progress monitoring and cashflow forecasting
- Conduct snagging, de‑snagging and assist with handover processes
- Contribute to risk registers and project programmes
- Communicate clearly with Housing Associations, Local Authorities, Developers and public‑sector stakeholders
- Maintain strong professional relationships and provide timely updates
- Degree in Building Surveying or similar
- 2–5 years’ Building Surveying experience
- Strong understanding of building pathology, regulations and JCT contracts
- Experience in residential or public‑sector projects
- Familiarity with refurbishment, regeneration or remediation projects (desirable)
