Do you have the ability to both deliver high quality interventions, and develop the skills and knowledge of other practitioners in South Tyneside Talking Therapies?

South Tyneside Talking Therapies is an award-winning service and one of the highest performing services at both regional and national level.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide screenings and Low intensity PWP interventions as part of the Talking Therapies team which also includes other therapeutic models such as CBT, IPT, CAT, EMDR, CFD, Couples Counselling and Person Centred Counselling.

The post holder will be expected to have a commitment to a holistic model of mental health and working with partners to address client need through 1:1 work and group work.

There is recognition that staff can realise their potential through effective clinical and management supervision, managerial support, and through access to internal and external training.

Staff development and their wellbeing are accepted as priorities, and we have an established Wellbeing Strategy Group which develops wellbeing initiatives for the service.

This post holder will be required to work one out of hours shift per week.

Job responsibilities

  • The postholder(s) will be part of South Tyneside Primary Care Mental Health Lifecycle Service which incorporates Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT). They will work with adults who have a range of common mental health problems in primary care providing high volume low intensity interventions. They will use traditional and innovative treatment methods.
  • The postholder will work with people with different cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters when necessary and should be committed to equal opportunities.
  • To meet targets set nationally and locally for access, recovery and waiting times.
Person Specification
Knowledge
  • Demonstrates an understanding of anxiety and depression and how it may present in Primary Care.
  • Demonstrates a knowledge of the issues surrounding work and the impact it can have on mental health.
  • Knowledge of medication used in anxiety and depression and other common mental health problems.
  • Demonstrates an understanding for need to use evidence based psychological therapies and how it relates to this post.
Qualifications
  • Qualification from PWP Training Course (Post graduate diploma in low intensity therapy) / Evidence of passing course.
  • Registration with BABCP / BPS as a PWP.
  • Training in nursing, social work, occupational therapy, counselling or within a psychological therapy.
  • Psychology or other health related undergraduate degree.
  • Psychology or other health related postgraduate degree.
Other Requirements
  • High level of enthusiasm and motivation.
  • Advanced communication skills.
  • Ability to work within a team and foster good working relationships.
  • Ability to use clinical supervision and personal development positively and effectively.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Regard for others and respect for individual rights of autonomy and confidentiality.
  • Ability to be self-reflective, whilst working with service users, in own personal and professional development and in supervision.
  • Car driver and/or ability and willingness to travel to locations throughout the organisation.
  • Fluent in languages other than English.
  • Ability to evaluate and put in place the effect of training.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including telephone skills.
  • Able to develop good therapeutic relationships with clients.
  • Received training (either formal of through experience) and carried out risk assessments within scope of practice.
Experience
  • Evidence of working with people who have experienced a mental health problem.
  • Demonstrates high standards in written communication.
  • Able to write clear reports and letters.
  • Experience of working in Primary Care Services.
  • Worked in a service where agreed targets in place demonstrating clinical outcomes.
  • Ability to manage own caseload and time.
  • Evidence of working in the local community.
