# Library Assistant - CMK Library## Job IntroductionWeâre recruiting a Library Assistant to help local people to enjoy reading, learning and accessing information across our nine community libraries. Youâll be joining a friendly and dedicated team working in the heart of the community.Youâll help us make sure everyone has a warm welcome when they visit and youâll play an important part in bringing our library spaces to life. This role is based in our busy Central Library and is ideal if you enjoy working with people and looking to develop new skills.The Library Team work a two-week rota. Find out more about working with us here:### Main Responsibility* Help promote reading in the community by supporting activities that encourage literacy and a love of books.* Carry out frontâline customer service duties and help run sessions such as story times* Support residents by offering guidance on using library resources, materials and equipment.* Positively represent our Library Service and Milton Keynes City Council, helping us build strong relationships with local people.* Help keep our libraries safe, welcoming and wellâmaintained for colleagues and visitors.* Work with children in supervised, nonâregulated activities when based in school settings.### The Ideal Candidate* Good literacy and numeracy skills, ideally with English and Maths at GCSE level, or equivalent experience.* Confident using digital tools including Microsoft Office and other information systems.* Great people skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and deliver small group sessions, such as childrenâs story times.* The ability to notice issues that arise when working with the public and either resolve them or seek support.* Someone who works well in a busy, multi-tasking environment and enjoys being part of a supportive team.* Weâre looking for someone who reflects our values: dedicated, respectful, and collaborative.To be successful in this role, youâll need a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
