Trainee Accountant - Belfast
MCS Group is delighted to be partnering with a well established small/mid-tier Accountancy Practice based in Belfast, looking to recruit for a Trainee Accountant on a full time, permanent basis.
A growing Belfast-based Practice is seeking a Trainee Accountant to support continued expansion. The role involves working with a portfolio of clients processing VAT returns, Bank reconciliations and small Accounts Preparation as you progress. The team values development, a strong work/life balance, and operates a no-overtime culture with offices closing at 1pm every Friday.
- Regularly communicate with clients by phone, email and in person.
- Prepare accounts for smaller clients and support the completion of corporation and personal tax returns.
- Handle bookkeeping tasks and draft VAT returns.
- Opportunity to assist with transactional work, including M&A and complex tax matters.
- Provide ad hoc project support across wider business areas.
- GCSE/A‑level/Degree (preferably in a numerate or analytical discipline).
- Strong numerical capability with sound analytical and critical‑thinking skills.
- Good IT proficiency, particularly in MS Office and Excel.
- Confident communicator with the ability to engage clearly with clients and colleagues.
- Prior experience in an accountancy practice is highly desirable.
- Previous experience doing VAT / bookkeeping (practice or industry) is desirable.

- 28 days incl statutory days – moves to 30 after probation, 35 in 2nd year
