Job summary
A community art organization is seeking 3 members to join the Selection Committee for its 127th Annual Exhibition. Members will review submissions and vote online, with a final meeting on October 5, 2025, in Edinburgh or Glasgow. This is a great opportunity for members to contribute to the art community while experiencing the exhibition selection process firsthand. Travel expenses can be covered within set limits.

- Open to all Society members, especially those who haven't participated before.
- Interest in art from various disciplines including painting and sculpture.
Responsibilities
- View and vote on submitted artworks.
- Attend a full-day meeting to make final selections.
- Assist with hanging and arranging the exhibition.
We are looking for 3 members of the Society of Scottish Artists to be part of the General Submissions Selection Committee for the 127th Annual Exhibition. The Society of Scottish Artists is an artist-led membership organisation and encourages all members to contribute to the Society and its activities.
You will be part of a committee of people responsible for selecting artworks for the exhibition, you will view and vote on artworks submitted digitally through the general submissions open call.
- After the submission deadline has passed, you will be given access to the online voting system where you will have around 18 days to look at each submission and cast your vote. This is done online in your own time before Friday 3 October 2025.
- Previous exhibitions have attracted around 2000 submissions. You are required to view and vote on every artwork.
- You will be required to attend a full-day in person meeting on Sunday 5 October 2025 to make the final pre-selections. This meeting will be held in a central location in either Edinburgh or Glasgow – tbc. You must be available on this date.
- The selection committee is encouraged, where possible, to assist with the hanging and arranging of the exhibition on the following dates: 6, 7, 8 January 2026.
All members are welcome to apply. We are interested to hear from Society members who have not previously taken part in exhibition selection committees and from those who live outwith Edinburgh. (Travel expenses can be covered up to a limit).
We are keen to receive applications from artists working in a range of disciplines within the areas of painting, printmaking, photography, drawing, artist books and sculpture.
- Deadline to apply: Monday 8 September 2025, 12 noon
- Notification: by Friday 12 September 2025
- Access to voting: Wednesday 17 September 2025
- Selection completed: by 9am Friday 3 October 2025
- Selection meeting: Sunday 5 October 2025, 10am – 5pm in Edinburgh/Glasgow – tbc
