V05109 - Advanced Apprentice Mechanical Fitting (Site & Facilities)

Our people are responsible for facilitating all staff and stakeholders within safe, secure and well‑maintained facilities across our Barrow‑in‑Furness site. By providing clean and high‑functioning working environments, we enable the staff responsible for delivering our boat programmes to work in an effective and efficient manner every day.

Training course: Engineering maintenance technician – dual discipline (level 3).

Hours: Shifts to be confirmed. 37 hours a week.

Start date: Monday 21 September 2026.

Duration: 3 years 6 months.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands‑on experience.

What you’ll do at work
  • You will gain experience of working with system fault diagnostics, where you will need to demonstrate excellent problem‑solving skills to identify and resolve problems.
  • Responsible for servicing mechanical equipment across site facilities.
  • You will work to drawings, manufacturer manuals and schedules to comply with legislation with a particular attention to detail.
  • You will learn how to operate plant equipment, working with hydraulics. Some examples of this equipment would be CNC machines, lathes, industrial gas distribution and pneumatic tooling.
  • All work you carry out in your daily role should be in line with BAE Systems safe systems of work.
  • You will be moved around different areas of the department to gain a full understanding of the maintenance requirements set by the business.
