Expleo is a leading Global Engineering Services Provider with UK presence in 10 locations. We are seeking Firmware (FPGA/SOC) Design Engineers to provide design/verification services to our client at their site in Crawley. The successful candidates would ideally have a proven track record for delivering firmware for defence and related products. The role is expected to be Hybrid (3 days in the client’s Crawley site) but will also involve time at customer sites and/or integration facilities.

Typical activities include architecture, requirements specification, design, verification and validation. Work will be carried out in conjunction with systems, software and hardware engineers to develop electronic systems. Projects involve using the latest industry‑class development tools for FPGA and system on a chip hardware technology and work is carried out to a structured firmware design process.

We are looking for energetic and driven engineers with broad expertise, with particular interest in candidates with military, aerospace, marine or rail experience.

• Work as part of firmware teams to deliver firmware projects to agreed time, cost and quality
• Verify firmware using Hardware Verification Languages or Hardware Description languages
• Design firmware using Hardware Description Languages
• Enhancement of firmware related processes (documenting, scripting, reporting, process automation)
• Work closely with multi-disciplinary teams

• Degree level qualification in a relevant subject such as Electrical/Electronic Engineering
• A lower qualification, such as HNC/HND, would be acceptable if the candidate can demonstrate significant experience in lieu

• Strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing
• Specialisation / coverage of some of the following:
  • Verification testbench architecture (SystemVerilog or C++)
  • Advanced VHDL verification
  • OSVVM / UVVM methodologies
  • Digital electronic design in hardware development languages: VHDL, Verilog, SystemVerilog
  • Simulation using Mentor Graphics ModelSim/QuestaSim
  • Object‑oriented design techniques
  • Image processing techniques and algorithms
  • Algorithm development using MATLAB
  • Linux development environments
  • Vendor‑specific FPGA/ASIC development tools

• Experience in the same/similar role delivering complex designs
• Implementing complex FPGA/ASIC designs using vendor‑specific development tools
• Developing verification testbenches and verification architectures
• Performing advanced VHDL or SystemVerilog verification
• Conducting algorithm development and/or image‑processing work
• Working with high‑speed interface technologies such as PCIe, Ethernet, Serial, AXI4
• Managing requirements using IBM Rational DOORS or similar toolset

• UK sole National
• SC cleared without caveats
• Ability and willingness to travel to and work on the client’s Crawley site 3 days per week
• Ability and willingness to spend periods of time at customer sites and/or integration facilities
