We believe in creating an environment where our apprentices really can learn and develop- during their time with us. Our experts and mentors will treat you as part of the team from day one, encouraging you to bring your own ideas to the table and giving you the opportunity to show what you can do.
BMW Group Plant Hams Hall is a modern, state‑of‑the‑art engine manufacturing facility, located just outside Birmingham, UK. Producing the latest generation of three and four cylinder petrol engines as well as V8 and V12 engines, the plant has recently celebrated 20 years of successful production. Operating seven days a week with more than one engine rolling off the line per minute, the plant plays a key role in BMW Group’s global production network, supplying engines for BMW and MINI, including some of the latest plug‑in hybrid vehicles.
We are looking for a committed and eager to learn individual to join our Maintenance team, responsible for ensuring all production equipment, both mechanical and electrical, is operating efficiently and safely. This involves engaging in tasks such as repairing and rebuilding machinery, designing process improvements, and assessing the need for future repairs to prevent issues from occurring. As your apprenticeship progresses, you will be involved in these tasks and will have the opportunity to develop a broad skill set that supports your future career.
The BMW Group offers an enhanced Level 3 apprenticeship commencing in August 2026. During your time with us, you will be studying towards a Level 3 BTEC in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering, provided by Birmingham Metropolitan College. The training involves studying modern, state‑of‑the‑art automotive production technology as well as the latest innovations in manufacturing techniques. The four‑year programme is designed to enable you to experience different aspects of engineering and production technology, focusing on general maintenance of our state‑of‑the‑art production facility and systems including robotics, controls systems, machining, fluid power, electronics, welding, and many more.
Alongside the practical engineering skills that are gained, the programme will also focus on your personal and professional development.
The first year of the programme is purely a learning environment. In addition to starting the academic requirements of your programme, you will undertake practical training to qualify for Employers Units of Competence. Your training will cover a wide range of engineering disciplines such as milling and turning, hand skills, electrical and electronic circuits, control systems, fluid power, programmable logic controllers, welding, and many more.
In the second and third years, you will continue with the academic requirements of the programme alongside on‑the‑job training. Your on‑the‑job training will comprise placements in a number of our maintenance departments and may also involve placements at other BMW UK sites. If at the end of your second year you meet both your targeted grades and our expectations in terms of engagement in your work, you may have the opportunity to continue your fully funded academic training beyond L3 onto an HNC Level 4 Engineering or Foundation Degree Level 5.
In your fourth year, your on‑the‑job training will continue and become more targeted to your final job role. If required, you will start working a shift pattern to help better integrate you with your team. Finally, you will also begin to take responsibility for your own projects, which may include designing, installing, and monitoring process improvements.
When it comes to selecting the right apprentices, it’s as much about attitude and behaviours as it is about vocational and academic success. That’s why in addition to the qualifications we require from you, we’ll also look for you to have a range of skills, attributes, and behaviours. These include team working, the ability to work without close supervision, quality focus, good communication skills, enthusiasm, initiative, and the ability to take on responsibility and show accountability for your work.
If this sounds like the opportunity for you, then apply today.
Once you click apply, you’ll be asked to create a profile, complete eligibility questions and upload your CV – you may only apply for one apprenticeship position but you may also express your interest to be considered for others.
If you meet the eligibility requirements, we will invite you through to the next stage of the process which is an online assessment, designed to further explore your verbal and numerical skills.
The successful applicants from the above will be invited to the final stage of this process, a face‑to‑face Assessment Centre at our BMW Hams Hall plant. Provisionally, the Assessment Centre is due to take place week commencing 30th March 2026 (this is subject to change).
To be eligible for this position, you must have lived in the UK for three years prior to the start of the apprenticeship and be able to provide proof of your legal right to work in the UK.
We are committed to promoting equal opportunities in employment and job applicants will receive equal treatment regardless of age, gender reassignment, marital or civil partner status, pregnancy or maternity, race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation.
