Job description

Active Leeds is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Aquatics Coordinator to join our Aquatics team! In this exciting role, you'll play a key part in the coordination and development of aquatics activities within our Leisure Centres, with a focus on raising the standards of our Learn to Swim lessons, developing our programme and brining the fun to Aquatics.

Flexibility is essential to support our centres; therefore, your 22.20 hours will vary week to week rather than being assigned to set days

About the role

As our next Aquatics Co-ordinator you’ll support the Aquatics and Junior Activities Manager and Leisure Centre Managers in the efficient delivery of the Learn to Swim programme.

Aquatics Co-ordinators mentor our swimming teachers giving advice and feedback. Being an Aquatics Co-ordinator is a fulfilling role where you will have the opportunity to make a difference to customers and colleagues. No day is the same, one day you can be supporting a school teacher delivering swimming lessons, another day delivering CPDs to swimming teachers, the next working with the Centre Management team to develop the holiday activity programme.

This role is integral to the Aquatics team delivering swimming lessons to over 24,000 Leeds residents each week. This role is city wide, with Active Leeds operating 13 pools across Leeds.

Job Description
Job purpose
  • To assist in the coordination and development of Aquatics activities within Leisure Centres.
  • To raise the standards of the learn to swim scheme.
Responsibilities
  • To support the Aquatics Manager and the Leisure Centre Manager in ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of the Learn to swim programme.
  • To assist with the organisation and delivery of Aquatic activity sessions and special events.
  • To assist in the development and management of specific Aquatic projects as appropriate.
  • Communicate effectively with voluntary swimming clubs and organisations in order to encourage involvement and interest in swimming.
  • To assist in supporting the swimming development pathway.
  • To assist partnership working with internal and external organisations including the Amateur Swimming Association.
  • To contribute to Aquatics decisions by being part of the Aquatics working group.
  • To assist, lead, teach or supervise sessions where cover is required.
  • To assist through recruitment & selection with establishing a team of teachers.
  • To have an awareness of the needs, aspirations and abilities of all participants.
  • To assist in the personal and professional development of individuals employed through establishing a comprehensive programme of CPD and deliver where necessary.
  • To assist and undertake aquatics based administrative tasks as and when required.
  • To undertake audits of the Learn to Swim programme providing feedback to Leisure Centre Managers and Swimming Teachers.
  • To support the facility management team with the supervision of swimming teachers.
  • To assist with providing feedback to customers on the Learn to Swim scheme.
  • To undertake the accountabilities of the post in accordance with council policies including the Safeguarding of Young People and Vulnerable Adults, Equal Opportunities and Health & Safety policies.
  • To undertake any other duties which may be assigned from time to time and that are commensurate with the grade of the post.
  • To effectively manage appropriate budgets in accordance with Leeds City Council’s Financial Regulations.

Qualifications

Essential requirements Candidates will only be shortlisted if they can demonstrate that they meet all the following essential requirements.
  • Hold the ASA/UKCC Level 2 Swimming teachers award or equivalent
  • Knowledge of Risk Assessments and Health and Safety guidelines
  • Relevant knowledge of Child Protection and welfare issues
  • Hold the National Rescue Test for Teachers or equivalent
  • Experience of teaching swimming/coaching swimming to people of all ages
  • Experience of planning and organising a Learn to Swim programme
  • Previous experience of working effectively with a range of partners internal & external
  • Experience of mentoring staff

Desirable requirements Candidates are not required to meet all the following desirable requirements however these may be used to distinguish between candidates.
  • CPD in delivering lessons to children with a disability.
  • CPD in delivering lessons to adult & child water activities.
  • Hold ASA level 1 or 2 Diving.
  • Hold ASA level 1 or 2 Water Polo.
  • Hold ASA level 1 or 2 Synchronised Swimming.
  • Awareness of the swimming pathway.
  • An understanding of the principles of developing swimming activities
  • Experience of influencing a team
  • Experience of supervising a team
  • Experience of working with swimming camps
  • Experience of working within a school swimming programme
