The Borough of Southend Swimming Club in Essex is currently looking to increase our coaching team by recruiting two Level 2-qualified Swim Coaches to support the development of our main squads and also work with our existing coaching team in developing our younger swimmers on the development pathway.

About Us:

The Borough of Southend Swimming Club welcomes swimmers of all ages and abilities, and our inclusive approach ensures that everyone feels valued and supported. Our sessions are held at Southend Tennis and Leisure Centre and Belfairs Swim Centre across mornings, evenings and weekends.

We are a friendly and ambitious club with around 170 members. We have 3 competitive squads and 4 development groups, including our Swim Development Centre for our youngest swimmers and our growing Masters Squad.

The current coaching team comprises 3 Squad Coaches, 3 Assistant Coaches and several Swimming Teachers and Poolside Helpers. They are supported by an enthusiastic and proactive Committee.

  • To effectively deliver an engaging coaching programme for the named squad that develops the swimmers, maximises their performance and ensures each athlete reaches their full swimming potential.
  • Undertake all necessary administration to ensure all training is planned, monitored, and evaluated.
  • Monitor swimmers' progress and assist with swimmer transition within the squad structure (in conjunction with the other Squad Coaches), communicate with parents and the committee on performance pathways and longer-term squad transition plans.
  • Work as part of a dedicated team to deliver high-quality swim coaching.
  • Implement new strategies that align with the goals of the Club.
  • Provide clear instructions and constructive feedback to swimmers and parents where appropriate.
  • Where appropriate, work with the Lead Coach and Committee to oversee the selection of competitions for the squads to compete in across the year to provide an appropriate selection of events and opportunities for all swimmers
  • Actively encourage members to take part in competitions at relevant points in training cycles. Attend all appropriate galas and provide swimmers with feedback and guidance to improve. Use the feedback given to guide the planning of future coaching and ensure swimmers meet their personal goals.
  • To assist other coaches and provide coaching cover where required across all squads.
  • Attend regular meetings as deemed appropriate by the Lead Coach.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Swim England Swimming Coach Certificate/ASA Level 2 Award or equivalent[1]
  • Hold or be prepared to undertake qualifications in first aid and safeguarding
  • Continuing Professional Development to meet current Swim England requirements
  • Experience in and knowledge of working with young athletes
  • Enhanced DBS with barring check and right to work in the UK

[1] We will consider applications from those with significant experience and who hold a relevant Assistant Swimming Coach qualification. They will need to be willing to embark on the Swim England Swimming Coach certificate with immediate effect
