Job description
Senior Research Associate in Bioelectronics and Neuroengineering for Pain

£49,119 - £58,265 per annum (Inclusive of Oxford University Weighting)

Description

Are you passionate about pioneering neurotechnology to transform lives affected by chronic pain? Join the University of Oxford’s EPIONE programme, a six-year EPSRC-funded initiative that brings together leading researchers from Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, and Glasgow to develop next-generation brain stimulation and modulation systems.

We are looking for a Senior Research Associate in Bioelectronics and Neuroengineering to join the team at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering within the Department of Engineering Science at the University of Oxford. The post is full-time and fixed-term for up to 5 years.

We are seeking a talented and driven Senior Research Associate to contribute to the design and implementation of novel engineering technologies for chronic pain. You will work on advanced brain-machine interfaces and non-invasive stimulation systems, integrating real-time behavioural and brain activity monitoring to deliver closed-loop interventions. This role offers the opportunity to lead experimental work with human subjects, collaborate across disciplines, and contribute to clinical translation efforts.

You will work with Professor Tim Denison’s Bioengineering Group at Oxford’s Institute of Biomedical Engineering, collaborating with the Oxford Centre for Integrative Neuroimaging, MRC BNDU, and the Oxford Health NIHR BRC.

About You

You will hold a PhD in biomedical engineering, neuroscience, or a related field, and have a strong track record in human neurophysiology, experimental medicine, or interactive systems. Technical expertise in areas such as electrophysiological recording, VR paradigm design, closed-loop algorithm development, or clinical neuroscience is highly desirable.

We are looking for someone with:

  • Experience in real-time human data processing
  • Advanced programming skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB, C)
  • A collaborative mindset and excellent communication skills
  • A commitment to high-quality research and innovation
What We Offer

  • An excellent contributory pension scheme
  • 38 days annual leave
  • A comprehensive range of childcare services
