Job description
JOIN THE COMMUNITY.
Making science better, together.

careers@ioppublishing.org.

Be part of a community working together to make science better. A society publisher with the perfect blend of not-for-profit purpose and commercial perspective. Here, we help each other be the best we can be: a team big enough to impact and small enough to care.

An opportunity has arisen for a proactive and collaborative Banking Assistant working within our Finance Operations department on a 6 month fixed term contract.

What will you be doing?

As a Banking Assistant you will be responsible for administering key banking routines and procedures and helping the business to maintain, control and report banking and cash flow activities. This is a customer facing role, dealing with suppliers and individuals who receive the payments. The role is responsible for processing bank account transactions; scheduling payment authorisation; cash management and cash handling; bank reconciliations; query resolution; maintaining online banking systems and preparation and analysis of reports for management information.

This role will require you to work collaboratively with other members of the team and staff around the business to ensure that all payments and receipts are properly processed and allocated. A strong sense of customer service and adaptability in solving problems is essential to the role.

Key job accountabilities include:
  • Being responsible for issuing the prepared bank statements in line with service level agreements across the group
  • Being responsible for processing all bank account transactions accurately and in line with service level agreements across the group.
  • Reconciliation of bank accounts, control accounts and other assigned balance sheet accounts in line with the month end reporting timetable.
  • Being responsible for processing the weekly payment run and urgent ad-hoc payments via online banking, including subsequent manager approval.
  • Providing excellent customer service to all stakeholders, both internal and external. This includes managing the team mailbox.
  • Acting as the subject matter expert in assigned area (payments, receipts, subs receipts)
  • Being responsible for the continuous improvement (CI) of their role and responsibilities; identifying and recording improvements.
  • Cross training with the other Finance Assistants within the banking team and provide flexible support and cover.
About you:
Successful applicants should demonstrate the following:
  • Formal further education qualification
  • Finance qualifications (e.g. AAT) preferable but not essential
  • Experience of banking (and/or finance) processes in a similar organisation
  • Experience of online banking systems and interfaces between finance and banking systems
  • Experience of finance systems, preferably ERP
  • Advanced excel skills
  • Focused on providing excellent customer service.
  • Strong communication skills, oral and written.
  • Exceptionally organised; able to deal with high volumes and deadlines in a time pressured environment.
  • Working effectively as part of a team; working collaboratively in a responsive and flexible way to ensure all team tasks are complete.
  • Passionate about continuous improvement; taking ownership for and developing processes.
  • Solution orientated to ensure quick resolution where challenges arise.
  • Working logically, efficiently and accurately.
