Job description

We are looking to recruit a Support Worker waking nights to join our team.

Shift Patterns: 12 hour shifts, 36 hours per week, 20:00 – 08:00.

£12.60 per hour.

Bishops Lodge is located in the historic town of Hastings, East Sussex. It offers residential support for six males and females who have Prader‑Willi syndrome (PWS). We are off a main road, close to Alexandra Park.

Our team is dedicated to providing a safe, supportive environment where the people we care for can live their lives to the full.

It would be ideal if you have previous experience in a similar role. However, whilst experience is valuable, we are looking for individuals who display the right values and behaviours to make a difference to people’s lives. You should be keen to learn and show compassion to care for the people we support.

What you’ll be doing

You will be part of a compassionate team committed to resident wellbeing. We take a personalised approach, using proven therapies to help people move forward with confidence and build a healthier, more fulfilling future.

Your positive attitude and passion for high‑quality care and support will be your key strengths, and you will have a friendly, patient and positive approach to work.

As a Support Worker, you will assist qualified staff with the assessment and implementation of individual patient care plans, undertake routine tasks and activities as directed or delegated to facilitate wellbeing, dignity and treatment of our residents and tenants. You will provide support with day‑to‑day activities whilst encouraging and promoting independent living. Through practical and emotional support, you will help people reach their potential and make a positive difference to their lives.

  • Encouraging people to live as independently as possible, while supporting them in building life skills and achieving goals at their own pace.
  • Supporting tenants in a person‑centred way, which can include assisting with personal care, participation in activities and support with daily living skills, including maintenance of tenancy.
  • Completing daily administration of electronic and paper records with the involvement of the individual as appropriate.
  • Supporting the individual in maintaining their health and wellbeing, which may involve liaising with other specialists.
  • Supporting and encouraging the individual’s participation and integration in the local community through activities and interests that meet their ambitions and help them achieve outcomes in their chosen way.
  • Embedding the REACH standards in everyday practice.
  • Following company policies and procedures.
What you’ll bring to the role

The ideal candidate:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and resilience.
  • Demonstrating initiative and the ability to work in a person‑centred way.
  • Ability to work alongside people to develop their potential and skills.
  • Empathy, understanding and patience.
  • Ability to work on your own and as part of a team.
  • Competent in verbal and written English.
  • A social care qualification is desirable, but not essential.

To be considered for this role, we require you to have the right to work in the UK.

Adult care benefits
  • Free on‑site parking.
  • 28 days annual leave.
  • Contributory pension scheme.
  • Flexible benefits including reduced rates and access to new schemes such as gym membership, IT technology (laptops, tablets, smartphones) and private healthcare.
  • Access to development opportunities.
  • Sponsorship of professional qualifications through our Individual Professional Development (IPD) panel.
  • Leadership & management development.
  • Long service award.
  • Refer‑a‑friend bonuses.
