As part of our core operations, we run a thriving shipyard at Gravesend that supports both our own fleet and vessels from external customers. This is a dynamic environment where no two days are the same.

As a Shipyard Mechanical Fitter, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring vessels are maintained to the highest standards. From engines and marine systems to plant and workshop equipment, your work will keep operations running smoothly and safely. You’ll also help maintain compliance with health, safety, and environmental legislation, making sure the site remains secure and efficient.

This is a hands‑on role that combines technical expertise with problem‑solving. You’ll be involved in everything from mechanical servicing and repairs to operating workshop machinery and managing materials. Flexibility is key – while your base will be Gravesend, occasional work at Charlton may be required to meet business needs.

We’re looking for someone with strong communication skills – written and verbal – and the ability to document work clearly. Analytical thinking and problem‑solving are essential, as is experience in material management and computer literacy.

You’ll need practical skills in operating workshop equipment such as turning, drilling, welding, soldering, and CNC machinery. Adaptability is important, as the role may involve working outside normal hours, in confined spaces, and at height.

While not essential, qualifications such as a Diploma in Marine Construction, Mechanical Installation, or System Engineering and Maintenance would be an advantage. Certificates in Mechanical Engineering or leadership qualifications like ILM Level 2 are also desirable.
