Job summary

Cardiff is a vibrant and growing city, and we have an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join the Neighbourhood Services Team as a Team Coordinator HGV. Our team is committed to delivering excellent service to Cardiff’s residents and visitors, ensuring high standards in street cleansing, waste management, and environmental quality.

About the job

As a Team Coordinator HGV, you will coordinate and monitor all cleansing activities throughout the city, reporting to the Neighbourhood Services Supervisor. You will provide leadership and support to your cleansing teams, undertake all cleansing activities as required (including driving small and large mechanical sweepers and transits), and demonstrate best customer practice. The role involves managing resources, developing staff, monitoring performance, and working with internal and external partners to improve service standards and outcomes for Cardiff’s communities

What We Are Looking For From You
  • Experience of working within an operational team, ideally in street cleansing or waste management.
  • Good level of literacy and excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Full valid HGV driving licence (Class II (C) and CPC/DQC card).
  • IT literate, with the ability to use Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and quickly learn new systems.
  • Knowledge of relevant service specifications, requirements, and the legislative framework.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage complex problems.
  • Ability to provide leadership, support, and coaching to team members.
  • Self‑motivated, adaptable, and committed to delivering excellent customer service.
  • Commitment to the Council’s Equality and Diversity Policy and corporate safeguarding responsibilities.
  • Full valid HGV driving licence and/or access to own transport.
Additional information
  • The are multiple posts which are required to work from different depots: Lamby Way Depot, Brindley Road/Coleridge Road Depot, or Millicent Street Depot. The post requires you to work from any designated Council facility.
  • The post may involve shift work, including weekends and bank holidays (excluding Christmas Day).
