Trainee Site Manager page is loaded## Trainee Site Managerlocations: United Kingdom, Edinburghposted on: Posted 2 Days Agotime left to apply: End Date: February 21, 2026 (7 days left to apply)job requisition id: R-26603**Trainee Site Manager****Edinburgh Park****Starting Salary:** £37,560 **Duration:****2-year programme****Full Time / Permanent****Help us create a better future, quicker**At SP Energy Networks our focus is on harnessing technology and innovation to create the networks of the future. Our team is building a dynamic network to meet the changing demands for electricity and increasingly, renewable electricity – safely, securely and sustainably in the communities we serve.A Trainee Site Manager at SP Transmission plays a pivotal role in the delivery of major transmission infrastructure projects across Central and Southern Scotland. **What you'll be doing** During the 18-24‑month programme, you will undergo extensive on‑the‑job learning—shadowing experienced managers across converter station construction, commissioning and maintenance, HVDC cable installation, civil works, and electrical/mechanical assets. While simultaneously working toward a CIOB Certificate and Diploma in Site Management. This pathway suits individuals with supervisory experience in the transmission sector, possessing technical knowledge and a track record of leading teams or works packages. On the other hand, qualified candidates lacking experience, such as those with electrical, civil engineering, or construction management qualifications, will benefit from on-the-job learning, coaching, and mentoring from seasoned Site and Construction managers. The duration of the development will vary based on individual qualifications, with successful candidates from both pathways expecting the programme to take between eighteen months to two years for completion.Your responsibilities include planning, coordinating, and monitoring contractor activities on site, establishing and maintaining a robust safety culture, and overseeing construction and commissioning stages. You will ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards (including inspections, material testing, daily progress records, and weekly progress meetings), manage design change processes with engineering teams, and interface with operational staff like protection engineers and senior authorisers. Upon successful completion, trainees are expected to be fully capable of stepping into a Site Manager role, fully equipped to coordinate large-scale projects, manage multi-disciplinary teams, and ensure timely delivery within SP Transmission’s drive toward a sustainable, Net Zero energy network. At SP Energy Networks, we know people are central to building a better future, quicker and we are seeking new talent to join our team.**What you’ll bring** As a Trainee Site Manager, we are in search of individuals who are enthusiastic about acquiring new skills and advancing in their careers. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in the Construction and Utilities sector at a supervisory level, who have been involved in construction projects or have obtained a degree in Electrical, Civil Engineering, or Construction Management, and possess a valid driving license. We provide two distinct pathways tailored to candidates' experience and background. For candidates with practical experience, the successful candidate will participate in a development program for supervisors or less-experienced managers, in partnership with the Chartered Institute of Builders (CIOB).**What’s in it for you** As well as a competitive salary which is reviewed annually, you can also enjoy a number of other benefits. With our pension scheme, the company will contribute double your contribution amount (to a maximum of 10% contribution from the company). At ScottishPower, we believe it’s the little things we do in life that make a big difference. We keep electricity flowing to homes and businesses through Central and Southern Scotland, North Wales and in the Northwest of England. We operate over 4,000km of cables and lines that make-up the transmission network – connecting infrastructure like wind farms into the electricity system. With diverse opportunities across our businesses and a commitment to invest in our own internal talent, ScottishPower can offer people real career opportunities that meet personal and professional goals, in a global organisation. Our HVDC programme sits at the centre of Scotland’s ambition to reach Net Zero by 2044. As the transmission network rapidly evolves to accommodate unprecedented levels of renewable energy, HVDC technology is essential for delivering long distance, high capacity, low loss power transfer. That’s why we’re investing more than £5.5 billion in our transmission network, with HVDC schemes forming some of the most technically advanced and strategically important projects in the UK.Working within the HVDC team means contributing directly to the infrastructure that will define the next generation of the electricity system: converter stations, subsea and underground cable systems, and the control technologies that enable a stable, low carbon grid.Inclusion, diversity, and a social purpose are at the heart of everything we do. Together with our values, they bring us together into a stronger, more sustainable business with direct links to the communities we serve. It takes all kinds of people to build a large-scale business like ours, so whatever your background, you’ll fit right in. We are committed to providing reasonable support or adjustments in our recruiting processes for candidates with disabilities, long term conditions, mental health conditions, or who are neurodivergent or require pregnancy-related support.
