Job description

The Projects & Training Assistant will play a vital supporting role in the scoping, development and delivery of high-profile projects and heritage skills training initiatives across the Commonwealth and the UK. Working closely with the Project Development Consultant and Training & Skills Consultant, the postholder will also serve as the primary liaison point for the International Advisory Committee (IAC), coordinating communications and supporting their engagement in CHF's mission and programmes.

This is a hybrid post combining support for professional activities with administrative responsibilities in a fully remote, part-time role. The successful candidate must be based in the UK and will be engaged as an independent contractor paid at an hourly rate agreed following interview.

Key Responsibilities

Project Support

  • Assist in the planning, scheduling, and coordination of Commonwealth-wide training projects and partnerships.
  • Help prepare project briefs, budgets, contracts, delivery plans, and funding reports and maintain continuity in client relationships with delivery partners in the UK and overseas.
  • Take responsibility for specific countries and projects under the guidance of the Projects Development consultant.
  • Track project timelines, deadlines and ensure documentation is kept up to date.

Training Coordination

  • Support the rollout of bursary schemes, internships, and workshops by helping manage application processes, liaising with candidates and coordinating logistics, including booking flights and visas.
  • Assist in the development of training materials, including online modules and summer school resources.

International Advisory Committee Liaison

  • Act as the primary point of contact for members of the IAC.
  • Coordinate meetings schedules, agendas, and follow-ups.
  • Support Board and committee communications, prepare briefing materials, and help maintain strong engagement and alignment with CHF initiatives.

Communications & Engagement

  • Support the drafting of updates for newsletters, project reports, case studies, and website content related to training initiatives.
  • Support the organisation of events, launches, and public engagement activities.
  • Liaise with partner organisations, trainers, and local communities as needed.

Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Collect and organise monitoring data from trainees and project partners.
  • Support the preparation of evaluation reports and impact summaries for funders and trustees.
Person Specification
  • Must be resident in the UK and legally able to work as an independent contractor on a part-time basis.
  • Minimum of five years administrative and /or professional support experience, preferably in the non-profit sector.
  • Strong IT, organisational and administrative skills with high attention to detail.
  • Demonstrable interest in heritage conservation, training, and international development.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines independently and collaboratively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and cloud-based collaboration tools (e.g., Google Drive, Dropbox, Zoom).
  • Comfortable working independently in a remote setting with regular virtual check-ins to the wider consultant team.
  • Experience supporting projects in education, cultural heritage, or the non-profit sector.
  • Familiarity with international or cross-cultural working environments.
  • Knowledge of heritage skills or traditional building techniques is an advantage.
  • Such other tasks as may from time to time arise.
  • Opportunity to contribute to meaningful heritage and training work across the Commonwealth and to develop professional and administrative experience in a global heritage organisation.
  • Flexible working hours within a supportive and collaborative team.
  • Remote-based engagement with occasional opportunities for in-person events or travel (subject to project needs and availability).
