Job overview

We have an opportunity for an experienced Registered Nurse or Physiologist to join our Community, Diagnostic Centre (CDC) department. The role involves planning and undertaking a range of diagnostic respiratory assessments, with a degree of responsibility and autonomy, in both paediatric and adult patients in accordance with ARTP or ERS/ATS criteria where applicable. The candidate must have previous experience performing Spirometry tests. Paediatric experience is not essential as training will be provided. The successful candidate will analyse and interpret a wide range of diagnostic tests, maintain up-to-date clinical knowledge, obtain accurate results, and maintain professional development and registration.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide cross-cover to other hospital sites as required.
  • Facilitate students and others to develop competence through supervision, teaching and role modelling.
  • Assist in setting department objectives in line with Unit, Corporate and National objectives.
  • Ensure safe systems of work and compliance with Health and Safety legislation and Trust policies.
  • Undertake risk assessments and report significant problems and hazards to Respiratory specialty management.
  • Communicate with staff at all levels and external stakeholders as required.
  • Undertake audit and governance duties within lung function services.
  • Maintain databases and records and produce timely statistical reports on workload.
  • Participate in MDTs or Respiratory meetings.
  • Ensure information is accurately recorded in clinical systems and that statistical data is correctly coded.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Perform procedures listed as an independent practitioner and provide high-quality clinical reports and interpretations for the following diagnostic tests:

  • Measurement of static lung volumes by whole body plethysmography
  • Reversibility testing
  • Gas transfer measurements
  • FeNO measurements
  • 6 minute walk test
  • Respiratory muscle strength assessment
  • Blood gas analysis via capillary blood gas
  • Support the CPET clinic at Worthing Hospital once a week
  • Export and analyse data for interpretation
  • Construct reports based on test reason
  • Provide physiological interpretations on reports
  • Troubleshoot equipment and staffing to ensure efficient service
  • Any other tests as deemed necessary by the Site Lead

This role may be eligible for visa sponsorship under UKVI Skilled Worker route where criteria are met.
