A local council in Kendal seeks a Passenger Assistant to support children and vulnerable adults during transport. Your role includes ensuring passenger safety, assisting with boarding, and maintaining accurate records. Ideal candidates are caring and confident, with good record-keeping abilities. CTOT is the Council’s “in‑house” Transport Service. The team delivers home to school transport for mainstream and SEND pupils, and home to daycentre/training for adults with learning disabilities, across Westmorlandand Furness Council.
As a Passenger Assistant, you’ll play a vital role in supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and vulnerable adults on their journeys to school, college, or training.
You will ensure the safety and welfare of passengers from pick‑up to drop‑off, assist with boarding and alighting, and support the driver when needed. You’ll communicate effectively with parents, guardians, drivers, and schools, maintain accurate records, and follow risk assessments to keep everyone safe.

We’re looking for caring, confident individuals who can remain calm in challenging situations, think on their feet, and be active and supportive throughout the journey. Good record keeping is desirable. You should be able to follow instructions and work as part of a team. You must be willing to undertake safeguarding and health & safety training (provided) and hold an enhanced DBS clearance.
Experience working with children or vulnerable adults is desirable but not essential—full training will be provided.
