A local government council is seeking drivers in Kendal to provide safe transportation for SEND pupils and vulnerable adults. Applicants should have a D1 or relevant driving license and be flexible in their availability. The work includes managing school runs on split shifts, and the position offers various benefits and the potential for up to 25 hours per week during term time. Full training and uniforms will be provided.
We are CTOT, Westmorland and Furness Council’s in-house Transport Operational Team and we are looking to recruit a number of drivers who can drive a car, MPV, minibus or a coach and preferably hold a D1 (grandfather rights) or Cat D driving license entitlement.
Candidates should be flexible, capable of providing a high standard of passenger safety and care throughout the journey and committed to delivering Home to School transport for SEND pupils and Vulnerable Adults. Enhanced DBS clearance is required; full training and uniform is provided.
The service operates Monday to Friday, Term time with school runs on a split shift basis (approximately 7:30–9:30 am and 14:30–16:30 pm). We are developing work opportunities through the day in our down-time, and hours potentially could be up to 25 hours a week, term time with the potential for additional hours during the school holidays. We would also consider applicants for mornings or afternoons on a job-share basis. The hourly rate is £14.36 rising to £14.84 per hour following satisfactory probationary review and there is a pay award pending.
Candidates who are shortlisted will be required to pass a driving assessment on the same day as the interview at our Skirsgill Operational Depot, Penrith, Cumbria (any change will be discussed with candidates).
Penrith Operations: Skirsgill Depot, Penrith — Minibus/MPV for drivers able to drive a minibus on non-vocational D1 (grandfather rights) or a car/MPV on a standard car (Cat B) license. Various contract hours available, part time & full time (term time).
Kendal Operations: South Lakeland House & Busher Walk, Kendal — Minibus/MPV for drivers able to drive a minibus on non-vocational D1 (grandfather rights) or a car/MPV on a standard car (Cat B) license. Various contract hours available, part time & full time (term time).
Barrow Operations: Salthouse Road Depot/Sowerby Woods Depot — Minibus/MPV for drivers able to drive a minibus on non-vocational D1 (grandfather rights) or a car/MPV on a standard car (Cat B) license. Various contract hours available, part time & full time (term time).
