Cross site working across Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle & West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven

We are excited to present the opportunity for two capable and experienced specialty doctors within Emergency Medicine at NCIC. The successful candidates will work as part of our Senior Decision Maker rota alongside Higher Specialist Trainees and RCEM Credentialed Senior Advanced Clinical Practitioners.

You will be actively involved in departmental management activity, quality improvement, and governance. You will be encouraged to develop your knowledge, skills, and experience in these non-clinical aspects of emergency medicine. You will help provide support and training to our composite medical workforce of postgraduate doctors in training, clinical fellows, and advanced practitioners.

  • Initial reception and management of patients attending the ED.
  • Independent overnight department management ensuring safe and effective patient care.
  • Full spectrum of Emergency Department patients including resuscitation and assessment of seriously injured and ill patients, dealing with complex cases, paediatrics and minor injuries.
  • Assist consultants and senior nurses in running the shop floor, ensuring patients are seen by appropriate staff in a timely fashion and that junior staff are supervised along with nursing staff and medical students.
  • Maintain flow of patients through the department and support national Quality Indicators.
  • Review x-ray and pathology results.
  • Develop special interest for clinical research and undertake audit projects.
  • Conduct observation ward rounds in the Emergency Department.
  • Actively attend, participate and contribute to teaching sessions for his/her own team as well as colleagues of varying levels.
  • Maintain and develop own skills and learning.
  • Maintain professional standards and obligations as set out by the GMC.
  • Adhere to Trust Policies and Guidelines.
