About Us

Community Housing Limited (CHL) is a leading not-for-profit organisation dedicated to making a positive impact in the housing sector. We are committed to addressing housing issues and supporting vulnerable populations by offering affordable and sustainable housing solutions to individuals and families in need.

At CHL, our primary goal is to create safe, secure, and affordable housing options that empower individuals and families to thrive. With a focus on delivering high-quality service and outcomes, we manage over 11,000 new and existing properties across various communities. CHL is driven by a collaborative team culture where every member plays a vital role in achieving our mission.

The Role

Are you hands on with strengths in combining practical building maintenance skills with genuine care for people? Come join our team where no two days are the same and you’ll be working both independently and as part of a supportive team.

As our Building Maintenance Officer, you’ll be responsible for ensuring our Build-to-Rent properties are well-maintained, safe, and welcoming for residents. Your work will directly enhance the living experience of people in our community — including those who may be doing it tough — by keeping our buildings in top shape.

We are looking for a skilled Building Maintenance Officer with experience in building or property maintenance, preferably within residential or Build-to-Rent environments. Working closely with the Facilities Manager and our caretakers, you will play a key role in contributing to overall asset performance through proactive and responsive asset management whilst maintaining compliance.

In this role you will:

  • Carry out routine and cyclical inspections and proactively identify maintenance needs before they become problems.
  • Manage contractors and service providers to deliver high-quality repairs and upkeep.
  • Respond quickly and respectfully to resident repair requests.
  • Ensure all work meets compliance, safety, and quality standards and maintain records.
  • Support the delivery of minor capital works, refurbishment and improvements projects.
  • Work with our project partners to identify defects
  • Build positive relationships with residents, colleagues, and contractors.
About You

To be successful for this role, you will have a genuine passion for wanting to support vulnerable people in our community.

Essential Criteria:
  • Demonstrated experience in building or property maintenance, preferably within residential or Build-to-Rent environments.
  • Experience managing contractors and service providers
  • Strong work ethic, ability to work independently, willingness to learn, and a caring and empathetic nature.
  • Strong customer focus and confidence in liaising with various stakeholders including vulnerable people.
  • Exposure to using maintenance management systems or digital tools for logging and tracking work orders.
  • Previous experience working on MS Office programs including Excel.
  • Ability to compose professional correspondence via email to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Green/White WHS Construction Induction Card (or ability to obtain).
  • Sound knowledge and application of WHS practices.
  • A current driver’s licence
Desirable:
  • Previous experience working in the social/community housing industry.
  • Certificate IV or above in a relevant trade, ideally Building and/or Carpentry.
  • Experience or knowledge of property management.

Please note that satisfactory police check is required for all staff and those with client related responsibilities are required to provide a NDIS and Working with Children Check (WWCC).

As an equal opportunity employer, CHL works closely with people from a diverse range of backgrounds. CHL acknowledges the traditional Aboriginal owners of country throughout Australia and we pay our respects to them, their culture and their Elders past and present.
