Qualifications

  • Good geographical knowledge of Shetland and road networks.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe, reliable and timely transport services using a wheelchair‑accessible vehicle.
  • Support passengers with mobility needs during boarding and exiting.
  • Secure wheelchairs and mobility equipment according to guidelines.
  • Support the Service Manager with performance targets and service delivery.
  • Adhere to health and safety and safeguarding requirements.
  • Complete mandatory training to maintain compliance.
  • Carry out additional duties as required.

Royal Voluntary Service has an opportunity for 2 Driver positions across Shetland. This is a part‑time, permanent role with a salary of £13.19 per hour (FTE £24,023 per annum).

About the Driver Role

The role is as a driver in the Shetland Community Transport Service. We provide transport for clients to hospital, GP appointments and social appointments such as lunch clubs.

As Our New Driver You Will Be Responsible For
  • Providing transport for clients across Shetland using a wheelchair‑accessible vehicle.
  • Ensuring wheelchair passengers are transferred safely and securely.
  • Assisting the Service Manager to meet KPIs and keep the service running smoothly.
  • Ensuring compliance with standards, policies and procedures such as Health and Safety, Infection Control.
  • Safeguarding data protection and adult protection.
Location

Across Shetland.

Hours

25 hours per week: 8 am – 1 pm and 12:30 pm – 5:30 pm. Some flexibility will be required.

Job Requirements
Knowledge
  • Understanding of wheelchair‑accessible vehicles and how to secure a wheelchair.
  • Good geographical knowledge of Shetland and the road networks around major towns.
Skills
  • Full, current driving licence.
  • Excellent communication skills, putting people at ease quickly.
Experience
  • Experience as a volunteer or understanding of the third sector would be an advantage.
  • PVG membership required.
Job Responsibilities

  • Support the Service Manager with performance targets, service delivery and continuous improvement.
  • Adhere to organisational and statutory requirements, maintaining high standards of health and safety, infection prevention, data protection and adult safeguarding.
  • Participate in mandatory training to maintain competence and compliance.
  • Carry out additional duties as required.
