Job summary
A healthcare service provider in Southampton seeks a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) for their Emergency department. The ideal candidate will have relevant qualifications, including Ontario College of Nurses registration and a commitment to patient safety. Responsibilities include providing patient care and working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Ideal candidates will have two years of recent acute care nursing experience, excellent problem-solving, communication skills, and a passion for continuing education. This position is part-time with competitive hourly wages.
Qualifications
- Must have Ontario College of Nurses registration and current BCLS certification.
- At least two years of recent acute care nursing experience is required.
- Demonstrated competence in various nursing skills related to patient care.
Responsibilities
- Provide patient care in the Emergency department.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members.
- Advocate for patient safety and adhere to Brightshores' care principles.

DEPARTMENT: EMERGENCY LOCATION: OWEN SOUND UNION AFFILIATION: OPSEU – SERVICE STATUS: PART-TIME WAGE RATE: $37.071 - $38.157
Reporting to the Manager, the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) works collaboratively in an inter-disciplinary team to provide patient care within their professional scope of practice while working in the Emergency department.
- Ontario College of Nurses registration
- Current certification in or willingness to obtain: BCLS
- Two (2) years recent acute care nursing experience
- Current understanding of the Canadian Triage and Acuity Scales (CTAS)
- Physical Assessment Course or equivalent
- CCU 1 or willingness to obtain in six (6) months
- Code White (CPI certification) or willingness to obtain
- Ability to work at full scope of practice as defined by the Emergency Program, ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team in a fast‑paced and ever‑changing environment
- Demonstrated Competence in the performance of the following skills: ECG, arrhythmia interpretation, IV therapy (including maintenance, IV starts and medication administration), care and maintenance of CVADs, splinting, oral, IM, sc medication administration, wound care, urinary catheterization, suture/staple removal, measuring for crutches, application of orthopedic immobilization devices
- Experience with POCT, CBGM, urine testing and urine pregnancy testing, blood collection and lab specimen processing for transport
- Power chart and order entry
- Excellent organizational and patient assessment skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with patients, families and other healthcare professionals
- Excellent problem‑solving, decision‑making and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to continuing education and professional development
- Recent satisfactory performance and attendance record
