COULD A BBC APPRENTICESHIP BE THE NEXT ROLE FOR YOU?

Join us as an apprentice at the BBC to give yourself the opportunity to kick‑start your career in a job you'll love. We’re committed to your skills and talent development. You’ll learn on the job, developing your knowledge and skills in an area that interests you, while working towards your apprenticeship qualification with one of our learning providers.

WHY JOIN THIS SCHEME?

Are you a natural organiser with a passion for media? The Junior Production Coordinator Apprenticeship at the BBC could be your perfect start. You may help with the set‑up of filming on location or in the studio for one of our programmes like The One Show, or schedule crews and freelancers for Women’s Hour. No media experience or qualifications needed - just enthusiasm and problem‑solving skills. Whether you're finishing school or changing careers, this hands‑on role offers a pathway into production management at one of the world’s leading broadcasters.

To find out more about the schemes we offer, you can register to join one of our webinars here. Please note that the webinar for this scheme takes place on Tuesday 9th December at 6 pm. If you're unable to attend or have seen this after that date, keep an eye on our webinar playlist on YouTube here where the video will be uploaded.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM?

BBC News & Current Affairs produces award‑winning content across long‑form documentaries, investigations, audio, podcasts, live studio output and outside broadcasts. Programmes include Panorama; BBC2 and BBC3 Current Affairs documentaries; Africa Eye; Newsround; Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg; Newscast; Gangster; Ukrainecast and many many more. As a Junior Production Coordinator apprentice, you’ll work at the heart of busy productions, gaining experience across all stages — from planning, and logistics to post‑production and delivery. You’ll support both editorial and production management teams, helping set up domestic and international content.

This is our entry‑level position into production management; you will work as a Production Management Assistant, supporting our Production Managers and Production Coordinators in creating quality content for all of our output, which may include TV, audio, online, events and digital platforms.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT

As a Junior Production Coordinator apprentice with News & Current Affairs, this is a brilliant opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute - you may demonstrate the following:

  • Assist with travel logistics, shoots, audio programmes, studio setups, crew bookings, and call sheets
  • Support budget management and cost monitoring
  • Support staff management and scheduling
  • Assist with data and/or media management and production reporting
  • Learn best practices in production management, and BBC policies and compliance

On successful completion of your apprenticeship, you will be able to apply for job roles such as a Production Management Assistant, Production Secretary or Production Coordinator, depending on experience both inside and outside of the BBC.

The academic study involves attending instructor‑led workshops; tutorial sessions; presentations and group work. Throughout your apprenticeship, you will be asked to gather a portfolio of evidence and work on an end‑point assessment that demonstrates your learning, while working towards a Level 4 apprenticeship qualification.

This apprenticeship will give you a thorough knowledge and understanding of what it is like to work in production management and the media industry, which you can then utilise during your time at the BBC and afterwards in the wider industry.

  • Resilient, responsible and have a calm focused approach to challenging situations
  • Flexible, motivated and have an adaptable approach to the pace of work
  • Can manage multiple deadlines and demands on your time
  • Are an enthusiastic and motivated self‑starter, flexible and adaptable to out‑of‑hours working
