WHY JOIN THE TEAM?

BBC Scotland Operations is looking for a motivated individual to join our team and train as a Technical Operator, developing specialist skills across audio, post‑production editing and media management.

BBC Scotland Operations provides expert technical skills for a wide range of Television, Radio and Digital output. From daily live news and sport to documentaries, features and major outside broadcasts, our teams help deliver trusted, creative, high‑quality output to audiences across Scotland and beyond.

Based in Aberdeen, this is a unique opportunity to develop your technical and creative skills through specialised training and hands‑on experience.

You’ll work at the heart of our busy production environment, supporting BBC Scotland across Radio, Podcasting and Television. You’ll gain experience working on location and in studio settings, contributing to local and national content that reflects life across both the north‑east of Scotland and the Nation as a whole.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT

As a Production apprentice, this is a brilliant opportunity to learn, grow and contribute – you could be:

  • Audio: Developing essential sound skills, including audio capture, live sound mixing, recording, editing, playback and technical troubleshooting. You’ll learn how great sound supports storytelling and enhances the audience experience.
  • Editing (Post‑Production): Learning the craft of editing for broadcast and online platforms. You’ll gain experience in assembling stories, sound mixing and delivering content for transmission.

You’ll be learning both on and off the job. This means that as well as learning on your placement at the BBC you’ll also attend regular meetings (either in‑person or virtual) with our learning provider, working towards an industry‑recognised, SCQF7 in Creative Media qualification.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

To be eligible for an apprenticeship at the BBC, you must:

  • Be 18 years old or over by the time the apprenticeship begins in September 2026.
  • Be legally eligible to work full‑time in the UK for the entire duration of the apprenticeship.
  • Not currently be enrolled in another apprenticeship programme, whether with the BBC or another organisation.
  • No prior learning is required to apply.

For candidates under the age of 19 years at 8th September 2026: To complete the apprenticeship, you must have achieved Core Skills (Scotland) at SCQF Level 5 or 6 in Communication and Numeracy. Core skills will be embedded into learning.
