Ashworth Hospital High Secure Psychological Services are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and dynamic full time Cognitive Behavioural Therapist for a twelve month fixed term period. You will need a drive to assist in the delivery of high quality psychological assessment and treatment to patients detained under the Mental Health Act and require placement within a high secure hospital due to the complexity of their presentations and associated risks. Within the hospital, psychological services deliver a wide range of assessments and treatments in relation to mental health, personality difficulties and offending behaviour risks. We provide treatment with a focus on those factors that will allow patients to a progress to lower secure placements in line with a least restrictive approach. Ideally, you will have experience of working with individuals with complex needs.

The department consists of a mix of clinical and forensic psychologists, a cognitive behavioural therapist and a nurse therapist. We have close links with both local and international universities and provide placements for trainee clinical and trainee forensic psychologists. The service has developed innovative clinical interventions and research.

• Relevant professional qualification (e.g. Nursing, social work, etc.) and an accredited post graduate qualification in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. UKCP or BACP Accredited (or equivalent)

• Registered with the HCPC or professional regulatory body

• Experience of working with complex models of therapy for CBT (e.g. psychosis)

• • Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, undertaking specialist assessment, formulation, care planning and interventions.

• • Experience of working with presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.

• • Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients’ psychological care and treatment, within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan. Well developed assessment skills incorporating a range of methodologies, e.g. clinical interview, psychometrics, structured clinical tools.

• • Ability to assimilate complex information from a range of sources to complete psychological formulation and clinical risk assessment in order to develop effective treatment plans for clients with mental illness and/or PD related needs.

• Experience of delivering psychological intervention in a range of formats to complex client groups.
