Job description
Overview

Are you a dedicated veterinarian looking to elevate your career in a supportive and forward-thinking environment? This independent small animal hospital nestled in the picturesque Hertfordshire countryside is seeking a passionate vet to join their esteemed team. With a rich history spanning over 120 years and an RCVS-accredited status since 1985, this practice is committed to excellence in patient and client care, continually investing in state-of-the-art equipment and training.

Imagine working in a place where your professional growth is nurtured by a friendly, close-knit team of 16 experienced vets. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to manage a diverse array of cases in-house, from soft tissue surgeries to orthopaedics. The team’s varied interests and specialisations, ranging from internal medicine and cardiac ultrasound to emergency and critical care, ensure a rich learning environment. Plus, with an extensive refurbishment on the horizon, you’ll be part of an exciting phase of growth and innovation.

This role is perfect for a vet with a few years of experience who’s ready to take the next step in their career. Whether you have a specific passion or are eager to explore new areas of veterinary medicine, you’ll find the right mix of interesting cases, hands-on support, and funding to help you advance, including the possibility of starting a certificate. While an interest in ophthalmology would be a bonus, it’s not essential. To ease your transition, you’ll be paired with a buddy vet during your induction.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a diverse array of cases in-house, from soft tissue surgeries to orthopaedics.
  • Collaborate with a supportive team, discussing tricky cases, scrubbing in on new procedures, and mentoring new graduates.
  • Engage in regular in-house CPD sessions and participate in an active clinical WhatsApp group.
  • Contribute to a culture of collaboration and knowledge-sharing with a focus on patient and client care.
Work Environment and Schedule
  • 4-day week with an early finish once a week
  • For seven weeks out of nine, finish at 1 pm (approximately a 3.5-day week). For the remaining two weeks, early finish is at 5 pm.
  • Rota is flexible and supports part-time positions if needed.
  • Weekends are split to ensure no one works a full weekend on call.
  • On-call procedures receive bonus pay; an RVN is on-site 24/7 for inpatient care.
Location and Benefits
  • Located in a charming market town with amenities, countryside, and proximity to transport links including direct trains to London and Cambridge, and Stansted Airport.
  • Salary up to £77,000
  • Fully supported and funded CPD, including certificates
  • Sabbaticals available
  • Five weeks of holiday plus bank holidays
  • Accommodation available during on-call
