Whatever your priorities – work / life balance, career progression, sustainability, volunteering – you’ll find like-minded people driving change at Howden.Pro-actively handle a portfolio of motor claims consisting of mainly high value bodily injury.**Main Responsibilities:*** Managing a caseload of complex personal injury claims in accordance with claims handling procedures and service levels.* To assess indemnity, liability and quantum on claims, ensuring that each claim is investigated thoroughly with due regard given to the circumstances of an individual case.* Controlling claim cost by achieving most economical settlement, through good use of liability and quantum arguments and effective negotiation.* Maintaining good file discipline and accurate reserves, together with an effective diary system which ensures that cases are reviewed on a regular basis and handled in a timely manner aligned to SLAs &/or any Court timetable.* Attendance at trials and conferences with Counsel where appropriate.* Adherence to and engagement with Reinsurers and all associated Large Loss procedures.* Ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements including Treating Customers Fairly.* Pro-actively managing personal training and development requirements.* To build strong working relationships with suppliers.* To maintain a high degree of technical knowledge and to keep abreast of market and legal updates.**Skills and Experience:*** Strong and current working knowledge of personal injury claims with a handling experience in serious injury, traumatic brain injury, serious spinal injuries and amputation.* Strong technical knowledge and application of Discount Rate, extensive care claims and any other heads of claim applying to serious/catastrophic injury claims.* Good knowledge of medical disciplines required in investigating personal injury claims at all levels of severity.* Sound knowledge of company products and policy wordings.* Solid understanding of the Civil Procedure Rules and the Personal Injury Portal process.* Knowledge of current, relevant Case Law.* Good market knowledge and commercial awareness* Able to demonstrate an understanding and application of claims negotiation, liability decision making and cost potential.**Personal Qualities:*** An excellent communicator, capable of influencing and asserting opinion at all levels.* Excellent telephone, written, verbal communication and formal presentation skills.* Exemplary planning and organisational skills.* A high degree of drive and commitment and the ability to demonstrate a highly professional work ethic.* Ability to manage and prioritise own workloads.* Willingness to develop self and new skills.* Ability to work with flexibility in a proactive claims environment.A career that you define.
