Starting Salary: £31,537 with progression to £34,434 per annum (pro rata for part time)

Hours: 37.0 per week

Location: Hertfordshire / covering 11 sites

About The Team

Join our Gypsy & Traveller service within a leading local authority. We are a busy operational team that works on a range of maintenance projects for our tenants on 11 residential sites across Hertfordshire. We provide a maintenance service to plots, sanitary facilities and surrounding areas to keep sites presentable.

The 11 sites are located in the following areas: Cheshunt, Tring, Hemel Hempstead, Watford (x2), Barnet, St Albans (x3), Stevenage, Hatfield.

About The Role
  • Main base is Stevenage; day planning is around the needs of the sites. We are a county-wide service.
  • Each gypsy and traveller site has an equipped site office; you will prepare for your day and access materials needed.
  • Work is varied: maintenance such as fence repairs, plumbing fixtures, brick work, and pre-planned maintenance.
  • Maintain tidy public areas and encourage tenants to keep plots presentable.
  • On-call duties: one week in eight, with out-of-hours coverage. Hours are 16:00–08:00 Monday to Friday; 24 hours a day on weekends.
  • Reactive/emergency maintenance and planned improvements on residential sites.
  • You will have access to a manual vehicle to travel to sites.
  • Tools are provided.

Essential Qualifications and Skills
  • Work record of general maintenance skills and experience.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A full manual driving licence.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
Desirable Qualifications
  • A building qualification in Electrical, Plumbing or Carpentry.
  • Competence with Microsoft IT packages to manage training records, emails and electronic calendars.
  • Good record keeping skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure; strong organisational and time management skills.
