Qualifications

Job Location

Head Office (SA31 2NF) with occasional travel to our services across South Wales and hybrid working.

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Payroll Officer to join our Finance team at M&D Care, supporting the accurate and timely processing of payroll for approximately 650 employees. This role is a key link between HR, Finance, and our wider workforce, ensuring compliance with UK legislation while delivering excellent service to managers and employees. Full Job Description

Role and Responsibilities
  • Assist in preparing and processing monthly payroll.
  • Calculate basic pay, overtime, holiday pay, deductions, and statutory payments (PAYE, NIC, SSP, SMP etc.)
  • Maintain accurate employee payroll records and update changes of hours, roles, and personal details.
  • Process new starters and leavers, including issuing P45s.
  • Support RTI submissions and ensure data accuracy.
  • Respond to payroll enquiries from employees and managers.
  • Assist with producing payroll reports for Finance and HR.
  • Support pension auto-enrolment processes.
  • Assist with Early Pay administration.
  • Ensure compliance with payroll policies, procedures, and HMRC requirements.
Essentials
  • Good understanding of UK payroll processes and statutory requirements.
  • Strong numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills for handling employee queries.
  • Ability to always maintain confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in payroll systems (Dayforce desirable) and Microsoft Excel.
Qualifications
  • Experience working within a payroll or finance/admin role.
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
  • Payroll-related training or qualifications advantageous.
Experience
  • Some experience in payroll processing or a similar finance position.
  • Experience working with payroll software (Dayforce desirable but not essential).
  • Comfortable using Excel for basic calculations and data checks.
Desirable
  • Experience within social care or a similar people-focused sector.
  • Experience supporting payroll improvements or system updates.
  • Working toward (or interest in) CIPP qualification.
