Job summary

A community support organization is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join their team in Guildford and Woking. In this role, you will provide one-on-one support to young adults, promoting essential life skills and independence. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and problem-solving abilities, a proactive approach, and an ambition to help those with learning disabilities. This is a variable hours contract primarily working on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays during term time, with a range of benefits offered including retail discounts and an employee assistance program.

Job description

Location: Our sessions are based at community venues across Surrey, with this role being primarily based in Guildford and Woking.Hours: Variable Hours contract working primarily on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 10am-4pm, during term time.Annual Leave: 30 days pro-rata, inclusive of bank holidays. Training: Fully paid training is given and further development opportunities are available.

We are looking for people to support learners in an outreach capacity on our fantastic community based learning programme, Building Futures, around the local Guildford and Woking areas.

You will be responsible for:

  • Providing highly person-centred 1:1 support to young adults.
  • Helping to promote life skills, independence, social skills, leisure opportunities, educational provision and community access.
  • Reporting actual or potential safeguarding matters to the Project Worker, Year Leader, Building Futures management team or Head of Safeguarding without delay.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication, organisation and problem solving skills
  • Due to the physical nature of the programme and community working, a good level of fitness and stamina is required.
  • You will ideally be proactive and keen for continuous improvement in yourself and the adults you are supporting, contributing to the development of the programme and working closely with the team.
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Willing to provide suitable reference and undertake a DBS Check. The initial cost of the DBS application will be paid for by halow. Please note , it is a criminal offence for people who are barred from working in Regulated Activity (Under the Safeguarding and Vulnerable Groups Act 2006) to apply for a role that requires them to work unsupervised with that particular group (i.e. adults at risk, children or both).

Professional or personal experience of learning disabilities, and experience within a health and social care and/or educational setting is desirable, but we also pride ourselves on a values-based approach and the main skill we are looking for is an ambition to help others.
