Job description
Post – Future Steps Mentor

Salary – Grade 6 £36,363 – £40,777

Permanent Full Time Post (37 hours)

The Future Steps Team works with parents who have had one or more children removed from their care. It is a multi‑agency team focused on addressing the gap in support experienced by parents between having a child removed from their care and any future pregnancy. Through an intense programme of support it aims to break this cycle and give women and men the opportunity to reflect, tackle destructive patterns of behaviour, and develop new skills and responses to create a more positive future. The aim will be to provide ongoing, flexible and person‑centred support focusing on responding to a parent’s individual needs, some of which will have already been identified but not fully met during pregnancy and care proceedings.

This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of the ongoing development of the Future Steps Team, which primarily will work with people to support them to make better life choices and to open up opportunities.

Responsibilities
  • Implement a range of interventions and support measures as part of an integrated package of health, therapeutic and social support.
  • Address the complex needs of women and men through intensive support to enable change in their lives and ultimately reduce the number of children being removed into care.
  • Work systemically delivering a relationship‑based programme where frequency, tenacity and creativity are central.
  • Manage a caseload of complex cases adopting a flexible and creative approach.
Qualifications
  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent in a related subject e.g. Education, Health, Social Care, Criminal Justice.
  • Achievement of English and Maths or equivalent to level 2 of the National Qualification Framework.
  • Minimum of 2 years post qualifying, recent experience in a relevant field e.g. Education, Social Care, Criminal Justice.
  • Recent experience working with individuals presenting with complex needs (mental health challenges, drug and alcohol misuse, domestic violence).
  • Demonstrate ability to create rapport and build effective relationships.
