Job summary

A UK-based engineering firm is looking for a Field Service Engineer to deliver maintenance and repair services for material handling equipment (MHE). The position requires proven skills in diagnosing and repairing various MHE, particularly with Li-ion powered systems. Ideal candidates will have a strong focus on customer service, electrical and mechanical fault-finding, and a relevant technical qualification. The role also involves travel to customer sites across England and the ability to work independently.

Job description
Field Service Engineer - MHE

Join a fast‑paced team delivering maintenance and repair services for material handling equipment (MHE). The role focuses on on‑site service, fault diagnosis and repair of a broad range of equipment, including Li‑ion powered systems. Ideal candidates are technically skilled, customer‑focused and comfortable working independently at customer sites.

Key responsibilities
  • Perform service, diagnosis and repair of MHE including counterbalance trucks, reach trucks, pallet trucks, order pickers and other warehouse equipment
  • Safely work on and troubleshoot Li‑ion battery systems, including battery management systems and charging infrastructure
  • Carry out preventive maintenance, safety inspections and documented repairs in line with manufacturer and company procedures
  • Use diagnostic tools, schematics and test equipment to identify electrical and mechanical faults
  • Complete accurate service reports, parts returns and job documentation in a timely manner
  • Communicate clearly with customers on fault findings, required repairs and follow‑up actions
  • Maintain service vehicle, tools and parts inventory; comply with health & safety and battery handling protocols
  • Support on‑call rota and occasional emergency call‑outs as required
Skills and experience required
  • Proven experience in servicing, diagnosing and repairing MHE equipment
  • Practical experience working with Li‑ion powered (understanding of Li‑ion battery safety and charging systems) and hydraulic equipment
  • Strong electrical and mechanical fault‑finding skills
  • Comfortable using digital diagnostic tools and reading wiring diagrams and schematics
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to customer sites
  • Able to work independently, manage workload and prioritise tasks effectively
  • Relevant technical qualification (e.g. NVQ, City & Guilds, equivalent) in electrical/electronic or mechanical engineering
  • Manufacturer training or certifications for MHE and Li‑ion systems
