Overview

Temple Sowerby CofE Primary School is a welcoming, friendly and thriving Church of England primary school, located in a beautiful rural village setting in the heart of the Eden Valley.

We are seeking to appoint a hardworking, flexible and enthusiastic Small Schools Business Manager and Clerk to the Governing Body to join our friendly and supportive team. This is a permanent role and ideally we are looking to appoint one person to take on both positions. However, if you would like to apply for only one of the roles, please contact the Headteacher to discuss this further. The role is to start at 8.30 every morning but the hours worked each day can be negotiated.

Permanent, Part-time. Start date: as soon as possible, subject to notice periods. Closing date for applications: Monday 13 October 2025.

Role and responsibilities

The role includes responsibility for the areas of finance, health and safety, personnel and premises. The successful candidate will:

  • have the skill to manage a busy office, prioritising and managing workload and a variety of tasks
  • have excellent interpersonal skills, whether meeting parents each morning, dealing with telephone calls and correspondence, or presenting financial and other key information to leaders and governors
  • have some relevant finance/business experience
  • work well as part of a team, be able to work under their own initiative and be committed to improving and developing their own practice
Qualifications and experience

School experience is desirable but not essential.

Post title: Small School Business Manager, Permanent, Part-time

Responsible to: Headteacher

Pay grade: BS Grade 8 - £32,061 (A) per annum pro rata

Role: to work alongside the Headteacher in managing school finances, personnel, premises and health and safety, as well as liaising with parents and administrative duties
