About the Role

As a Midwifery Educator, you will play a vital role in shaping excellence within our maternity service. Youll act as an expert clinical resource, providing teaching, coaching and evidenceinformed guidance that supports safe, culturally responsive, and highquality midwifery practice. Your work will include delivering workplacebased clinical education, coordinating orientation for new staff, supporting midwifery students, and helping colleagues grow their professional and clinical capability.

In this role, youll collaborate closely with the District Chief Midwife, Māori Midwife Lead, Midwifery Clinical Coaches and the wider Senior Midwifery Leadership Team to drive improvements, embed best practice, and contribute to service development. You will champion both clinical and cultural responsiveness, fostering a supportive learning environment that strengthens confidence, reduces stress, and helps build a resilient and capable midwifery workforce.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Based at Hawkes Bay Hospital, our maternity service is committed to delivering safe, equitable and culturally grounded care for hapū wāhine, pregnant people and their whānau. Guided by the values of Te Mauri o Rongo and the recommendations of Hau Te Kura - Nurturing Our Treasures, we strive to ensure care is clinically sound, culturally safe, and responsive to the needs of our community.

Youll work alongside a wide network of midwives, nurses, educators, LMCs, Māori midwifery partners, allied health professionals, educators and regional midwifery teams. Collaboration, whanaungatanga and strong professional relationships are central to the way we operate, ensuring a cohesive and supportive environment focused on delivering excellent maternity care across Te MatauaMāui.

About you

Youll be an experienced midwife who brings advanced clinical practice, a passion for teaching, and a commitment to growing others. To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Current registration with the Midwifery Council of New Zealand and at least five years of relevant clinical experience.
  • Postgraduate education (or a commitment to complete required postgraduate study within 12 months if not already held).
  • A midwifery portfolio assessed at leadership level.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to coach, mentor and empower colleagues.
  • A commitment to culturally safe practice, including the ability to apply Te Tiriti o Waitangi meaningfully in your work.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent timemanagement, organisational skills and a positive, solutionsfocused approach.
