You'll be responsible for day to day database administration while driving improvements through automation, modern database practices, and enhanced service availability.Success in this role means balancing BAU responsibilities with a strong focus on continuous improvement – particularly around cloud adoption, performance optimisation, and process efficiency.You’ll bring broad technical expertise, especially in database management, and work as part of a collaborative team spread across Edinburgh and Witham.**Key Responsibilities include:*** Oversee the performance and suitability of the Aegon UK database estate across test and production environments (approx. 300 databases)* Ensure effective monitoring, maintenance, and performance tuning, providing recommendations and solutions where needed* Maintain compliance with internal policies and controls, including security, SOx, and audit requirements* Investigate database related issues promptly, conduct root cause analysis, and manage resolution activities* Champion an automation first approach, identifying and implementing opportunities to streamline DBA processes* Collaborate closely with the wider Environment Operations team to anticipate project needs, align delivery, and manage resource planning**We’d love to hear from you if you have:*** Experience with a range of database technologies, such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, DB2, PostgreSQL, Sybase, MySQL, RDS, and AWS services* A solid understanding of complex architecture across varied environments and technologies* Hands-on experience managing and supporting large scale database estates* Proven skills in database monitoring and performance tuning* A strong grasp of both business and technology processes that underpin platform operations* A solid understanding of ITIL principles and how they’re applied within IT service management environments* We’re serious about your future and our enhanced pension scheme is now in place. We ask you to contribute 3% of your salary to your pension and we’ll put in 9%.
